Good place to live, but not for everyone

I recently moved to the Pegasus from a Loft building a short distance away. Upon completion of my previous lease, I searched for a reputable and nice place, with a promising selection of ameneties, and location not too far from work. It's nice having the subway approximately 1 1/2 blocks away, Ralphs, Macy's Plaza, etc. Like the title says, it's a good place to live. However, if internet is important to you (for those of you who pursue school online, web browsing, downloading, file transferring, etc.), you may want to hold off. Currently, the residence only offers AT&T DSL without an option of TimeWarner Cable or Verizon's FIOS.
A few warnings regarding AT&T's high speed internet.
A) They make you purchase the equipment, even if you don't want it or if you know it won't be for very long.
B) It takes a minimum of 1 week to have your service activated. Speaking of which, it's been almost 2 weeks for me and my service has not yet been activated. For some unknown reason, they can't seem to figure out why and I'm basically twiddling my thumbs.
C) The highest speed offered by them is 6MB/S, which is not much compared to Time Warner's 10MB/S or FIOS 25MB/s and up.
Other than the above mentioned, the people I've met so far have been nice, and property management has been pleasant to deal with.
Seeing how I'm currently pursuing my Master's of Science online, having internet connection is crucial to my studies. Based on my first and current experience with AT&T DSL, it is enough to make me not want to live here. I'm that serious. Horrible, horrible experience, and I'm truly uncertain as to why such a place as The Pegasus wouldn't have more options to select from. And why is AT&T DSL still in business'
Once Verizon installs FIOS in Downtown LA, all of the other companies should be only a memory.
On a final note, the washer/dryer combomatic (Euro washer/dryer combination; not separate machines) is ridiculous. It actually causes your clothing to smell worse than they did going in. I'm actually washing my clothes at my friends house, in a proper washer/dryer stack.
