Absolutely Awful

I moved into this apartment prior to the ownership change and will be moving out due to the ownership change. Like the previous reviewer, new management attempted to raise my rent by approximately 19% for a six-month lease. I found this so egregious that I researched LA County's Rent Stabilization Ordinance.

With the exception of Sunday, for the past month nearly every day of the week residents experience the joy of waking up to the sound of construction at 8am (10am on Saturday), the sight of construction workers throughout the lobby and the cars of said workers blocking one side of the first two driveways on Rochester. This past Saturday, I was woken up by drilling on the floors of the apartment above me. The resident manager usually attempts to inform residents when construction will occur, but not this past weekend. When I called the manager to inquire about the schedule, she never called me back despite assurances she would.

The Own Co. has not only been unapologetic about the construction, but also the chronically broken elevator. One of the two elevators was broken for nearly 2 months and on a few other occassions, the other elevator broke down as well. This forced residents to use the stairwell in the alley beside the building, which is poorly lit. During this period, management failed to inform residents about what efforts or progress were made to fix the elevator. It is inconceivable for an elevator to take almost 2 months to repair.

With renting, you get what you pay for, but that certainly is not the case here. I would vehemently urge against anyone even contemplating moving here. What you see is what you get, and that will be construction. Ask any resident in the building for their opinion, and I'm sure they would be happy to communicate it.
