The Shangri-Lodge is in a bad area of Hollywood, where pimps and prostitutes frequent. The management is very helpful, especially the maintenance team. The atmosphere is not very trusting and neighborly, however, and I was the victim of a robbery here. Also, a lady was assaulted in the lobby one evening around 2 AM. It is not a very safe neighborhood, as drug deals go on seemingly unnoticed. I'm sure the price has gone up since I lived there; I lived in a small apartment in the back and paid 325. The parking for those in the back is nonexistent, and it's dorm styled living ie shared bathrooms and unsecure entry. The main building was not safe; people used to yank on the door and force it open. The restaurants in the area are overpriced. Tommy's burgers is open 24 hours and are fair. Beware of the Scientologists- the building is right across the street from the Celebrity Center, home of Scientoloty. This building is filled with them. It's only recommended if you're planning to save money on your search for fame.

I just moved in. It doesn't seem too bad. There is parking in the street and I like the scientology security circling the block and looking out for the area. Bad things happen all over L.A. Be streetwise. Don't take silly risks and you'll be O.K. Padlock your door and cook your own dinner to save money...

Lived there for years as a kid. Remember it being cheap back then. Parents could not afford anything better. The elevator used to wreak of urine and the building always smelled. Many robberies occurred there and mail was being stolen out of boxes in lobby. Get a PO BOX if you have anything worthwhile being mailed to you. If you have a social life or plan to ever get laid, never bring anyone you know back to this place. It has to be one of the worst in Hollywood. The Scientology guards are watching their own property and never once in years of dealing with them did I ever see them come onto Shangri Lodge property to stop a single crime. Back lot is next to the freeway and addicts and hookers hang out back there. Accidentally leaving your car unlocked is a sure invitation to having it crapped in AND having the stereo or entire thing stolen by morning. Save up, work more jobs, get more roommates, or end your life before moving here. trust me.
