Sycamore Lanai is a charming taste of Hollywood. It has a little something for everyone. From homeless characters sleeping in the stairwell to the radiant smell of Sinsemilla seeping through it s hallways. Sycamore Lanai is full of excitement. It is located in the heart of Hollywood on Sycamore avenue, between Hollywood and Franklin, you can t miss it, it s the building whose structure is protruding inward making any tremor of an earthquake even more provocative. (I can swear that Laundry room is getting smaller). Just walking distance from getting wasted. You will always be immersed in a world of enchantment. Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, Sponge Bob Squarepants. They are all your neighbors in the street, just don t look anyone in the eye and watch your cigarettes. Elvis is only a few steps away performing live everyday on the corner of La Brea and Hollywood. Be enraptured in the Oscars, they are presented yearly right around the corner, the streets get closed off for days before the event which gives you a perfect opportunity to urinate right in the middle of Hollywood blvd, a yearly ritual I will often miss. Bask and suntan in the Sycamore Lanai swimming pool, it usually turns from green to blue just in time for summer, have a barbq on the deck and meet some of your fellow Sycamorians, some of the best, top of the class people you ll ever meet.
In the 5 years I lived and wandered around in the Sycamore Lanai hallways wasted, I never had a single bug in my apartment. Now, the other half of the building was infested with cockroaches but I guess that is just the luck of the draw. I ll take bad water pressure and a garbage disposal that doesn t work over bugs any day of the week. I ll take the noise of Fresh and Easy trucks at 4am and teenyboppers getting drunk for the first time and iridescent lights breaking through my window shades casting crazy shadows on my walls any day over bugs. I ll take a worn out, ripped up rug, that was suppose to be replaced after my first year there and the cracks in the wall from water damage from the big rains of 2005 over bugs any day of the week.
Sycamore Lanai is not for everyone. As the ever present suicide is always a demon of it s luster. ONLY the strongest of Warriors can engage upon this shelter and only the greatest of Prophets may survive it s interior.

Love the review. Really reminded me of my lovely year there, although I was gone before the rains of 2005 and I think I was leaving just as the cockroach problem began. It was before the management changed over, but it wasn't any better back then.
