nightmare in hollywood

I lived in this apt building for a year and was what I like to consider an ideal tenant. Not exaggerating or fabricating at all- my rent was always perfectly on time and I was quiet with never a noise complaint from anyone. Even though I frequently had maintenence problems that took forever to get fixed, and had many mornings without hot water, I never complained because I didn't want to be a bother and was confident that it would be eventually taken care of. It wasn't until my car was stolen out of the garage that I really had a problem. The management claimed that it wasn't their fault and they weren't liable, and they took no responsibility whatsover in helping me fill out insurance claims or police reports. Luckily my insurance company helped me deal with the whole mess. Soon after, I started having a problem recieving my mail. Envelopes or packages that I was expecting would be marked return to sender because there would be no one in the office to accept the package, (the office has authorization to accept packages if the tenant is not home- otherwise, the carrier will leave the package outside your door on the floor.) Even one time, a package was marked delivered and accepted in the office and yet I never received it. After this, I decided to look for another apartment. I gave a 60-day notice even before I had found another apartment, and cleaned my apartment thuroughly. I had no pets, and I even steamed the carpet before moving out- I wanted to make sure I got my deposit back. The management charged me $100 repainting fee, (the paint seemed fine to me, I didn't nail anything in the walls, just used thumbtacks) and a $300 recarpeting fee, even though the carpet looked brand-new when I left. I got less than 30% of my deposit back, but I didnt care at the time, I was just eager to be out.
The biggest problem lies here: after my complaints about the above, the manager (phillip) proceeded to give bad recommendations to all of the buildings I applied to. Even though I had proof on paper that I never had a late payment and there was nothing in my file about noise complaints, or 30-day notice or eviction or ANYTHING and the management STILL gave me a bad review. I finally was able to find a place when the last place I applied to checked out the wilcox apartments online and after I explained the situation to them, they agreed to rent to me. I am currenly paying less, and living in a larger apartment in the same area.
Please listen to the reviews on this website. The positive reviews were obviously done by management. Living here is a mistake and is a nightmare that I had to live with even after I moved out.
