I'm moving out of the Mark Hollywood (formerly Wilcox Apartments) after having lived there for almost 5 years. The day I moved into the building, I noticed that a neighbor's door had been kicked in. It was not a good omen to say the least.

For half a decade, I've had to deal with neighbors who openly and frequently use drugs (the hallways almost always reek of marijuana smoke); extremely loud partying and music on weeknights; a neighbor moonlighting as a prostitute; drug addicts starting a fight with a man in a wheelchair; broken elevators; faulty exercise equipment; an often non-functioning gate to the underground parking garage; guests of residents parking in my assigned space; double-parking in the driveway; incompetent or completely non-existent security guards; office managers (typically a different one each year) never being in the office or able to be contacted during regular business hours; lost mail; an ant infestation in my bathroom; washers and dryers that sometimes accept my laundry card; and the capper, a $270 rent hike, effective August 1st.

Since the Mark Hollywood has taken over, they've splashed some new paint on the walls and put a bunch of new deck chairs out by the pool. Apparently, their efforts are some sort of stab at turning the complex into "luxury" apartments, so they can compete with the Victor across the street. The building is just a dump, though, and in a cruddy part of town. No amount of lipstick on this pig is going to make it kissable.

The rent increase was simply the last straw. I'm not even sure it's legal for them to boost the price that much; I've been paying $880 for the past year or so. I'd think about suing them if they hadn't done me the favor of finally motivating me to stop being so lazy and move out.

No kidding! Word. You're preaching to the chior. You forgot to mention all the heshees though, a toilet indeed, I left after the funboy was left "in charge" and "this is a profitable business" became the motto, not your home, but a profitable business, I didn't want to live in a business so I left and the bad karma that was stuck on me there stayed there, I guess with you. Good on you for leaving and for writing a very articulate post.

Exactly! This place is one of the worst you'll find around Hollywood. Lived there for 1 year and couldn't stand it anymore. Had to move out. Their maintenance guy (my neighbor) didn't even speak English and always had loud music blasting every night. After I complained, they didn't even care simply because it was their own maintenance guy who could do anything.

TRUE, TRUE, TRUE, Everything you all said is true. I live their and the rent is high and not worth the price. Management sucks. They could care less about the residents!
