Like the previous reviewers, I am also a former tenant of the Piero apartments. When I found out that Piero apartment managers Nelson and Ashley would be moving, soon after my lease expired, I packed my belongings and followed them 1/2 a mile away to Visconti apartments.
Now, for readers that haven't visited or lived in the Visconti, Piero, Orsini, or Medici apartments, the buildings are pretty much the same in terms of floorplans, size, prices, and amenities. What really sets each complex apart is the staff.
At Visconti, Nelson and Ashley are the type of people that you want running the apartment you are living in. They, and the entire staff, including Pat, Dennis, and Jerold, etc. always have a bright smile on their faces and are willing and ready to address any problems I have, no matter how busy they are. In their hands, I know that the large quantity of packages I have mailed to me are stored, locked away and kept safe until I can pick them up. My maintenance requests are handled promptly and I feel very safe. Even my parents have been flagged down upon entering the building! It's also cool that Nelson and Ashley greet pretty much all their tenants by their first name. It shows effort in getting to know their tenants.
As far as the unit itself, the major plus with living in the Visconti vs Piero is the breakfast bar. When I moved, I chucked my dining table and started eating all my meals at the bar. When I'm done, it's super convenient to scoot the dishes into the sink or dishwasher. The major flaws with the construction is the air vent inside one of the bedrooms. It's pretty loud but I use that room as an office so it doesn't bother me that much. Also, the walls can be a bit thin so if your neighbors are really loud, you might be disturbed.
Gym: This is one area where I actually prefer the Piero over Visconti. In Piero, each exercise machine comes with its own dvd player. At Visconti, there is no dvd player. I subscribe to Netflix so I got a lot of exercise while watching a movie while at Piero.
Business Center: The library and conference room are great for studying and for holding meetings. Honestly, these two rooms get a little crowded during finals and midterms but usually it is open and quiet.
Parking: Two tandem parking spots come with my 2 bedroom unit. The management makes every attempt to place you in a spot close to your apartment. Tip: I know that most people look for a parking spot next to the elevators, but consider the stairwell as an option. I park right next to a stairwell so I only need to take 1 flight of stairs up to my apartment. It's super convenient, I get a little exercise, and often times it's much faster than taking the elevator, which is located farther away from my unit. As far as guest parking, I have my friends park on Bixel. There is more than enough parking sans when there is a football game at the school next door.
Prices: Sure, I'm paying 2200 for my 2 bedroom apartment. However, I shopped around. Trust me. There are a few places in Downtown where you will pay less, but you get what you pay for. That includes a dirty, rundown building, rude staff, etc. Pay a little more to get a top notch staff, quality appliances, nice amenities, and the safety you deserve.
If you are looking for a nice place to stay in Downtown LA, I think your search will take you to Visconti.
