Looks Can Be Deceiving!
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 5/14/2008
Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I went down to ask for a lightbulb, and the office staff wouldn't come out of the back room to answer my questions. They put fancy plug in light bulbs in your apartment, put in the lease that you are responsible to change them, but won't give the common courtesy to tell me where to get the proper one (as Home Depot doesn't even have the right bulb). I was told, third hand by the guard, that I needed to "put in a work order" although I heard the snappy attitude coming from around the corner.
I am soooo out of this place!! The NEW management STINKS!!! They scheduled a meet-and-greet on a Friday morning when people obviously have to work. I don't even know the manager's name because she is never in the office. There is one lady that is always in the front office who acts like it is a chore to get your package for you.
The guards are uninformed and constantly away from the desk "on patrol" while people walk in and straight up the elevator, no questions asked. They did give us a notice saying that they will be allowing residents to buzz in from the front desk, but you are not able to use the system without a 213 area code.
The managers post notices on the residents doors in the middle of the night with no regard for spelling and grammar. They sent out a crime report with the building's name spelled wrong and an almost incomprehensible letter telling us to clean our balcony.
The trash areas are gross. There are only a few trash chutes, so you better get there quick, as they fill up within hours of being emptied. This results in the residents having to put trash on the floor. They did "resolve" this with yet another grammatically incorrect letter telling residents to carry trash to the downstairs "dumpers." But bring your key because you will be locked downstairs...oh wait, your key doesn't work in any of the common doors. You can't be dropped off near the garage because you can't get in with your key.
They did make sure your bike is safely locked in the "bike parking" area, but it would have been nice if those with bikes in there were informed of this and their keys worked to get in. We had to wait hours for this to be resolved, there went our bike ride!
When I moved in, my guests could park in the guest parking lot. However, they have now closed that off and given the spots to residents, and make money by renting spots to LAUSD employees. They just told us that they need to know our parking assignments although i filled out pages of paperwork when I moved in just to get that spot. Then they gave us new permits with our apartment number on them (soooo safe!) Great planning!
Tip for the management: Get to know the culture of the building before you start making rapid changes! We miss the friendly guards who would shake your hand when you went to get your mail, the leasing agents who didn't hide in the back office or keep their doors closed, and got out of their seats to say hello or ask you about your day. Everything Nelson did to build this building up has been completely destroyed. It felt like a community and everyone knew your name, now it is even more impersonal than a SUPER 8 MOTEL.
I hope you like insects, as there are millions of worms roaming the building on a rainy day. And just hope that they don't crawl through the 2" gap under your door. When thats not happening, you need to battle other creatures that make their way into your apartment.
If you need a place to live, there are many other great buildings downtown that care about the people they rent to. I will miss the place I once enjoyed to live.
