Plumbing Issues, Raccoons and Some Noisy Neighbors
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 9/14/2009
Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
For the most part I think this is a nice place to live in. There are the occasional party people who can be noisy as hell even after 12AM which I find to be very irritating. I guess it depends which building you reside in. The place is always clean and well kept.
Construction: There's a current plumbing project going on. There are replacing the pipes in all apartments. From what I have heard buildings 1 & 2 are fixed and they are currently working in building #3, so if you can avoid getting a place in building #3 or #4 it could be good. I guess you could also ask them if your apartment will undergo any sort of maintenance soon.
Staff: The management is very professional and friendly. They try to take care of your problems as fast as possible.
Safety: There were 2 break-ins recently. There's poor insulation and no air conditioner in most apartments. Most people leave their windows and doors open all day and night due to the hot weather. There are a lot of workers coming in and out. I'm not saying they are responsible in any way, but it could be a problem when you have a lot unknown people entering and leaving the gates open to get materials in the premise. Aside from that I think the zone is pretty safe.
Parking: They charge about $40 per parking spot monthly. It's not covered by the rent. You can park on the street if you can remember to move your car every Thursday and Friday due to street cleaning, but this is from 10AM-12PM. I parked on the street for more than 1 year and only got 1 ticket for $60 if you do the math. I saved $420 in parking.
Infestation: There's a gang of raccoons going around terrorizing neighbors. If you live in the first floor that could be a problem especially if you have kids that like to play in the patio. There might be bugs in your place if you apartment is close to trees. The bird mating season could also be a problem, cause it can get very loud. If you love the outdoor this could be your little paradise.
Convenience: West L.A. seems to be far from civilization when it comes to shopping and entertainment. Beverly Hills is about 20 minutes or so, but you bet everything can be expensive. You might find yourself driving to Century City and Culver City most of the time for the nearest Target or movie theater. There are a lot of independent movie theaters nearby if you re into that. Grocery stores are very small and the nearest Vons looks as old and ugly as my evil grandmother. Prices can also be high.
