Stay away from Westside Terrace!

First of all, I would not write a review unless I am seriously disturbed. If you are looking for a place to live on the west side, this is not the place for you. Please check the BBB site as well. Both R.W. Selby & Company and Westside Terrace are rated D. I lived there for 1 year and moved out recently. Don't fall for the name "Luxury Apartments." They are not. The property looks pretty to the eyes on the outside, especially the well-kept swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts. But once you are in the building, you will find out the truth about this old and decrepit building complex.

Look at the parking garage, especially P1 and P2, carefully. Trash is littered everywhere. It is extremely untidy and unhygienic mostly because the housekeeping is unable to keep up with the amount of mess this community of people without any sense of social responsibility produces. They smoke, drink, throw litter everywhere, break beer bottles and stick their chewing gums on the elevator walls.

As far as security goes, this place does not have any. Security doors are also a facade only. You will find backdoors open for homeless people 24/7. There is no security cameras in the parking areas. So if something happened there, you would be on your own. If you have an emergency, it is virtually impossible to get help from the management or the security guard. I have had several incidents in which I left messages with the management, but none were returned.

If you are considering this place, please also observe the atitude of the leasing office staff, and how they treat each other carefully. They are insensitive and rude. You should also know that the building is old and built in a way that is very inconvenient to move into. Most moving trucks will not fit into the parking garage, and you would have to park on the street. And you can rarely find a parking spot on the street either. Even if you get a good parking space in the garage, you will likely have to walk quite a bit of distance to your apartment via the elevator which breaks down all the time.

The building is very noisy. You could hear every step of your upstair neighbor, and kids partying on the balcony in late hours. Often, young college kids will play music until the dawn.

Before we moved out, my wife and I thoroughly vacuum cleaned the apartment, spending the whole Sunday afternoon, expecting to receive full deposit back. Little did we know that we would instead be charged the balance of $22.09 including $395.00 for apartment painting (the room was recently painted only a year ago), $125 for apartment cleaning and $70.00 for carpet cleaning. I have lived in many different apartments, but this is the first place which did not refund security deposit. They are so thick-skinned as to ask more money!
