I feel for the reviewer that appears to have been jerked around but my experience has been the complete opposite. I came to Archstone, toured an amazing top-floor, catherdral-ceiling apartment and rented it on the spot.

There's no doubt about it, it's expensive. I flinched a bit when I signed the Lease because it was more than I wanted to spend, especially it being rent and not a mortgage. After careful consideration, though, I did it, for the following reasons:

1. It is only slightly more expensive than anywhere else in Marina Del Rey.
2. I am two blocks from the beach.
3. I am a mile from Venice, 4 miles from Santa Monica and a 13 minute drive to a parking space at LAX, where I fly out of at least 1x per week.
4. I have no one over top of me.
5. The landscaping and grounds are great.
6. The staff is great - I don't where those particular complaints are coming from. Jessica and Mischa are always super attentive and positive.
7. They keep my packages for me in the office so they don't have to be left on my doorstep.
8. They have a website where you can manage everything - I needed help getting my phone service hooked up and they got it squared away within 24 hours.
9. Finally, and most importantly, life is short - why not live in a great location that's sunny and close to everything'

All the conspiracy-driven negative nellies out there will think this is written by management, but I can assure you it is not. And this is the first time I have ever written a positive review of an apartment complex. I've lived in many over the last 15 years and it is the only time I have ever felt like management understands that I am paying a lot to be here and they are doing their best to make sure that I get as much value as possible for the money.

Lastly, I am not naive. Archstone is a huge corporation and is the rental business to make as much money as possible. When my lease is up I am sure I will get dinged with a healthy upcharge, and I'll need to decide whether or not I am willing to pay what they want. I've moved before due to that kind of pressure and will do it again. It's all part of the game.
