Archstone MDR is a sweet place, blocks from the beach, Cheesecake Factory and the Baja Cantina.

Beware the second year! They will move you in at a special price then bump your rent by up to 40% the second year. but hey, it's on the beach right and there's only a 1% vacancy rate. God bless America and capitalism. So by the time you've really settled in, got the pictures all up, sorted our your sh--, arranged the furniture - they dump a huge rent increase on you. Nice. It's not an LA rent control area so they can do pretty much what they wish in terms of price increases.

Safety' Some guy with a Ducati motorcycle had it stolen last week (May 2007), right out of the garage and kids smoke dope in parked, shuttered cars occasionally right next to your parking spot but the staff is on it right away. Stuff gets fixed fast and the foks who work here are pretty damn good. Maintenance folks are top notch and very responsive.

Having said all that it IS a primo location and great apartment complex if you have the $$. But be prepared for the famous Archstone second year bump. Once they have you in they hit you. HARD!
