Elevators are death traps. Maintenance is non-existant.

Elevators are death traps. I am NOT exaggerating. The permits posted in the elevators are 2 YEARS out of date! The repairman (from Elevator Solutions, the elevator maintenance company) told me that the elevators should have been condemned months ago. Numerous complaints have been filed with local safety board.
Maintenance does not respond to pages or calls outside of work hours. No explanations are ever given.
Do not ask maintenance to do anything that is not exactly in their job description (and NEVER outside work hours!). Not only will you get a childlike tantrum, but possibly a lecture too. Very bad considering you are paying $2k a month for this.
Wiring is very poor. Broadband Internet connection speed is way below what it should be. This can only be due to the wiring. As for plug sockets, most will not actually hold a plug! They are constantly falling out - I have two working and six faulty sockets in each room.
Few of my kitchen cupboard doors will close properly as the paint is so thick.
Paint fumes from nearby apartments seep into your own apartment through the vents. Wouldn't be so bad but so many people move in and out of this place that it happens quite often.
A few months ago we had drug dealers operating from a boat in the harbor. Cars coming and going at all times of the night. Very unsafe environment. Improved now, but management knew what was happening and nothing was done.
Recently the parking garages were repaired/repainted (paint is the Bay Club solution to everything) which caused massive chaos as the paint didn't dry for nearly a week! Did we get an apology' No, we were threatened with towing of our cars instead.
There is very little guest parking. 10 guest parking spots for a 120 unit building is not adequate. There is no street parking. Actually, there is not even a sidewalk in front of the building. Not safe for kids.
The ice-maker in my refrigerator will not work as there is faulty plumbing. According to the plumber I had take a look, it is setup for a dishwasher and not a refrigerator! That does not even make sense as I already have a dishwasher in this apartment!!
The latest drama is related to the termite problem and the wooden balconies. The wooden slats are also wider than allowed in the safety code. More complaints have been filed with the safety board.
Finally, the people who live in Marina Del Rey are just plain weird. There is an air of privilege to these people and no sense of community. I cannot wait to get back to a real neighborhood!
But if you still want to live in MDR, get an apartment in Marina Peninsula. Approx. $500 - $1000 cheaper and you will be able to sleep at night to the sound of the ocean. After nearly three years I will be moving out next month and I cannot wait!
