for an apartment building built in 1968. Dirty carpets, floods, dogs barking, pee'ing, jumping on you (it's horrible). I am not paying $1700 to live in a dog pound!!! Now they want the tennants to pay for their own electricity and for me that was the last straw. This building is old, it needs to be leveled, along with the boat slips to make way for new. They want me to pay almost $1700 a month for an apartment that faces the street, one floor up from a woman who's two yappy dogs bark at every passing car.

And don't get me started on that elevator.

There was a flood a few weeks back that took out three levels of the building (leaky hose in the bathroom of a third floor apartment), so I am always in a panic about my things being destroyed. Always.

This building is older than I am and I will say again, it needs to be leveled like all the older buildings in this marina, with a better, newer building built on the site.

I am moving. I have had it.

Building older than you are? Built in 1968? Needs to be leveled? 40 years is nothing for for a building. LOL! Don't blame the bad circumstances on the building's age.

Plumbing emergencies happen. You can't expect to live in close proximity to other people and not ever be affected by them in one way or another. Also, I have lived here for several years and our rent increases were only $35-$50 per year. I called around and we were way under priced compared to some of the other communities. Now after the great deal for a few years, we are catching up with the other communities. It is a business!! You can't live here forever and stay at the same rate forever! Staff is awesome. I follow the rules and everything is fine. I'm sick of non-pet owners coming here and saying they love pets and then complain that our community is a dog pound. DONT LIVE HERE THEN! Pet free buildings are the majority in LA. Move to one of them. We don't have the choices you have. We happen to love it here. It's nice to be welcomed as a pet family instead of shunned and treated like a disease. The Bay Club is great.

Oh and one more thing Anon at 3/28, I am a pet owner, but I have cats. It's not the dogs that are the problem, it's the owners who let them poop and piss in the hallways and run around unleashed. I am not putting up with that for $1700 a month. As for no rent increase, take heart, next time your lease is up, you will get a suprise indeed (because most everyone who lives in my side of the building who's leases just went up got a $250 increase, as in you aren't that special trust me). If this place isn't a dog pound (and I didn't coin that, someone who left another review here did), then it's a dog toilet with stupid owners who are so selfish they can't keep their mutts on a leash when on the property (which is in THE RULES). If it's not a problem like you say, how come every resident just got a notice to keep their dogs "leashed". Riddle me that.

As for the building being old, this place is ancient for marina del rey, 40 years of damp and mildew can do alot to a building.

I found a better place in the marina anyway, newer, cheaper and no dogs allowed. And that I would be more than happy to pay $1700 a month for.

ScarlettLady is right about the stinky hallways and stairways, and I spoke with a lady who's lived here for many years whose rent was increased $200. I've been here 2 1/2 years. Most of the dog owners are responsible and keep their dogs leashed, but there are a few exceptions. From my patio sometimes I smell dog urine from the patio next door. I'm looking to move. The new owners have made it very clear that the common areas will not be kept clean.

I also just received a $175 rent increase. My apt has never been updated although as people leave they are fixing them up a bit. Supposedly there was to be a total renovation beginning 2008 but now that is delayed. The carpets in the hallway do suck. And yes, dogs and their stains are everywhere. The location is wonderful, and if the apartments were maintained it would be worth paying more money. I understand business, but it would be nice if these folks valued their tenants.
