Lived here for 6 years, enjoy it immensely

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2009
I moved here in early 2003. I love the building, love the area. I plan to renew my lease, happily.
First of all, one warning: accept the fact you will have a certain amount of street noise, most of which abates by the time most people are ready to go to bed. In LA, you're going to find that anywhere, period. If you are coming here from NY or Paris, for example, this will seem almost like the country in comparison!
The main complaints seem to be about the Building A with the pool noise. I'm in the other Building (B) which appears to be quieter in general. This would be my recommendation of where to seek an apartment. VERY occasionally some neighbors may have a gathering/party where you can hear voices late at night. This really doesn't disturb me, and I figure I have the right to complain if and when. And I'm way past college kid age...
In the past, I had some difficulty in getting a perplexing wall noise problem fixed. The new management that came in late 2007 solved it within days. My recommendation would be to NEVER presume that any management in any building is going to jump on your request immediately. Just keep following up, firmly and politely, and all will be well. This is a fact of 21st century living. I deal with it.
The amenities (washer/dryer, built in microwave, good closet space, central air and heat, large bathtubs) should please those looking for comfortable living. Pets are accepted, with some limits on dog breeds.
In general, the area has a much lower crime rate than many parts of LA County (30 percent lower, according to some stats); the apartment building and unit itself do offer security features (buzz-in entryway, burglar alarm in unit). You cannot beat the location for shopping, entertainment, restros, proximity to public transportation when needed and major freeways.
Recommended.
