My fiancee and I were interestted in viewing the Jefferson at Marina Del Rey apartments after seeing several craigslist ads advertising "2 bedrooms available now" or "2 bedroom available soon". We called the number listed on the website and after getting the third degree about what we were looking for we were told that as long as we got to the community before 5 pm (office is open until 6 pm on sundays) we would be shown the available one and 2 bedrooms.
We got to the complex at 4:45, as all three "future resident" spots were taken it took us a little time to find parking on another street. We got to the office at 4:53 only to be told that we were too late and that they could not show us anything after 5 pm. When we pointed out that it was not yet 5 we were told that it was just too late. The leasing office lady was completely unapologetic and totally unsympathetic that we just drove all the way down there after being told by THEIR REPRESENTATIVE that we would be shown apartments. She finally agreed to quickly shows us the model, which by the was 2 steps from the leasing office and in the time she spent telling us how she could not show us anything she could have shown us two other units. After all that, she then took us back to the office to tell us that (their overposts on craigslist notwithstanding) they have just one two bedroom available and they could not show it to us because it was now, you guessed it, 5:10 PM. Aparently 50 minutes before closing, when noone else is waiting, is just not enough time to show. Moreover, not only did noone at any point apologize for making us come down there and then refusing to show, they actually tried to comfort us by tellling us that we can see the apartments on line. yeah....a) as if I would rent soemthign without seeing it and b)I checked our your website before I came down, the whole point was to see the apartment IN PERSON.
I should also point out, not that this should make ANY difference whatsoever in how you should treat propsective tenants, but my fiancee and I are both professioanls, we were neatly dressed and frankly, would have made far better tenants then the boozing frat boys we saw hanging out at the pool during our "tour."
