Faux Fabulous

We have finally moved out of what we liked to call "Marina Terror" and could not be more relieved to have left! By appearances, Marina Terrace seems to offer a comfortable and luxurious residential experience, but it took us a mere two days to discover that this apartment complex is truly faux fabulous. For starters, the apartment only offers cable and internet services through little known but high-priced companies (Clear Bay Communications and Netrisen respectively). If you are lucky enough to be in an apartment that has a south-eastern view, you MIGHT be able to get satellite T.V. through a private company (e.g. DirecTV)we happened to live in a corner of the building that could not receive a satellite signal so we were stuck with Clear Bay's basic cable line up of, wait for it, 20 or so viable channels (and most were in Spanish or Korean!). Of course, before moving in, we EXPLICITLY asked our leasing agent if our unit would be able to get a satellite signal and we were told an emphatic "Yes!" So if you're contemplating moving in, do the homework on your apartment and check that it has an obstructed view of the south-eastern skyyou can't rely on the incompetent leasing agents to know for sure...This brings me to my next point...the piss-poor management, leasing, and support staff. Whether it was trouble with a neighbor, paying rent, or requesting routine maintenance, the management and staff at Marina Terrace were consistently unprofessional and inept when it came to customer service. It always took us several follow up phone calls or in some cases letters to get our needs met at Marina Terrace. Combine the inherent tech vendor issues and management problems with these other issues: the constant delay (or complete lack) of hot water, ant infestations, noisy and rude neighbors, a private security company who had a particular bias against residents of Asian ethnicity (my boyfriend and I are not Asian but the security manager thought that made it safe to talk about how he felt about Asians), and the stench in the halls from dog poop (yes, people let their dogs poop in the halls and stairwells there!) resident garbage (yes, people leave their garbage bags in the halls and stairwells there!)or the simple lack of upkeep on the part of the maintenance staff (the halls were rarely vacuumed), and wow, that Marina view and shopping center across the street hardly seem worth it! How much did we hate our year long residency at Marina Terrace' Enough that it has been several months since we moved out and I still feel disgust, anger, and resentment for the way we were treated while living there. Don't get hoodwinked by the faux fabulousness like we didI wouldn't wish that experience on my worst enemy.

Ironically they just steam cleaned the carpets about two days ago...which is good and bad. Good because it's the first time I've seen it cleaned since I moved in (over 4 months now) and it smells good. Bad because we were told we would be getting new carpets in November...somehow I doubt these worn out ones will be replaced now that they've FINALLY been steam cleaned :( One can only hope the steam cleaning doesn't bring about mold in the poorly ventilated hallways.
Good to know you also experienced the shortage of hot water...I thought it was just my unit. Out of curiosity, where did you move to?
