Great for Saddleback students!

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
So far our stay here has been going well.
Being students, we love how close it is to Saddleback College (only a 5 minute walk to class). There is a mall and post office within walking distance also, which is good for us but maybe not everyone?s cup ?o tea.
We had alot of spiders when we first moved in, but don?t see so many around anymore. With all the (well kept)bushes and plants, bugs aren?t a big surprise. There are ants that appear in the rainy season, but a clean apartment usually keeps them away. Our big concern are roaches and rats, which we haven?t seen or heard of here(except someone mentioned having mice in a review, and that?s a bit scarey to hear).
The kitchen is old and selving/drawer space is a laugh, but it has been working for us. We love being on the 2nd floor with vaulted ceilings; it makes our tiny apartment seem bigger. Lucky for us, we had a new washer and dryer put in our bedroom closet. It was something they just started doing and it is really handy. Unfortunately, our clothing closet is only half the small space it was before so there isn?t much room for clothes or storage.
Management hasn?t really given us any drama. We leave them alone and they leave us alone. We?ve only complained about racoons in the walls (that sounds bad, but really it?s just rare cases of scurrying sounds).
The rent is a bit high for such an apartment complex, but it?s Southern California and that?s the way it goes if you don?t want a dive. Mission Viejo is a great town. The streets are wide with lots of trees and grass... it?s very park-like.
Speaking of parking, we have a one bedroom and with it got two parking stickers. One for the carport and another for unsheltered guest parking. Guest parking can be tough to find after 5 or 6pm (so try to get get a good spot early). There are gates to get in and out of the complex, and they always work when we use them; however, the entrance gate is often proped open, but that just means no waiting for a slow moving gate to let us through. Our gate clicker has also never been a problem.
In our section of the apartments (the Crown Valley side) it?s clean and quiet. No complaints there.
The pros:
*quick access to the college, mall, and post office (which may be a con for some)
*$99 deposit and first month rent free w/ our 13 month lease
*no roaches or rats!
*never-before-used washer and dryer in our room?s closet space
*vaulted ceilings :)
*quiet, polite neighbors
*high speed internet access
*grounds upkeep is good
The cons:
*old kitchen with small drawers and too-high cabinets
*no roman sized tub :(
*no personal garage
*lack of storage space
*tiny bedroom closet
*poorly designed front door
*annoying smoke detector (very touchy)!
*overall outdated appearance
