i've lived here for 1 1/2 years so far and it's nowhere NEAR what these people say. first of all, we're in mission viejo, which is the safest city in the nation. and for the lady who called the office about the kids smoking pot, do you call 911 when someone is in your parking spot' how stupid are you' the cops have been here twice that i've seen. once because someone's kid ran away and once because they're probably bored and just driving through. there's not much for them to do in this city. pay your rent on time, that's all you have to do. if you think the kitchen is too small, don't move here. if it's too far away from the freeway, don't move here. parking isn't as bad as people say either. we have never NOT been able to find a spot. so what if you have to walk a bit' how lazy are you'

I've lived in VDL for two years, now, and I have to agree with most of what you have to say. As for the police, they're regular visitors in our section, mostly because some guy keeps yelling out his balcony all night and another guy has apparently been beating his wife.
As for parking, I have to say it's MUCH worse than what you say. The difference is, we have to carry a lot of work equipment out to our cars every day, and for much of the past two years, we've had to scramble to find a parking spot for the second car. It's a pain to have to carry heavy equipment back and forth in repeated trips, or pull the car near and double park and then run with the stuff before someone comes along and wants us to move the car. It's much better to have two assigned parking spots.
But the BIG problem I have with VDL is the fact that it is corporate owned and that they don't give a ---- about the tenants. We've paid on time for two solid years, we're quiet and we respect the property. As a reward, they've raised our rent more than any other apartments we've ever been in. And, the worst part is, after two years, they still push for a year's lease. They punish any renters who dare think about going month-to-month, even after years of leases, by forcing a $400/month increase in your rent! That's obscene. It's enough to make this voter wish for rent control. And the offer they make about giving you some equity in a home you buy from them later...is a big, fat joke. If you crunch the numbers, you'll discover that it's like getting twenty bucks back on a $500,000 house. Don't even bother.
We're trying to buy something, and with today's crazy market in our price range in this area, we've been working on it for several months. Even perfect credit and a solid income don't guarantee a home sale. So, I asked for a couple of months without the 400 penalty. The clerk actually used the words, "I'm just a cog in the corporate wheel." So, in case you like being crushed under corporate wheels, I suggest you drive right past Vista Del Lago...and keep on rolling!

i posted the original review. i definitely agree with you. my initial review was an off the cuff thing after reading the really stupid complaints people had. anyway, first responder: you guys should come over and hang out with us sometime. i'm trying to figure out how to tell you where we live without posting our address on the internet. we sound about the same age (house-buying age) AND you can spell!

Face it, people, all landlords are SLUM LORDS these days. None of them care whatsoever. They know they've got you by the balls and they know you'll submit.
