Brooks Landing

I've lived at Brooks Landing Apartments (BLA) in Modesto for over a year now. I've seen one on-site managemnet staff replaced with the another, and little if any change in how well things are taken care of here. By that I mean my requests for repairs now; just as when I first moved into BLA in "07", are not being addressed (my last written request was made back in late "07", and as of today; 3/20/08, no one has followed up or followed through). During the last year, the security gates have frequently been out of comission, requiring that they be left open, sometimes for weeks at a time. Frequently the security gates fail and are left open all night. At one point, I was told that the Executives/Owners hadn't authorized repairs. The security gate was open full time and inoperative for around two weeks during that particular incident. The ovens in the kitchens vent ALL their heat directly into the apartments. When I cook,(using the stove and oven) my apartment routinely reaches 80 degrees. That's WITH the A/C running full blast to try and compensate. Poor design for a kitchen. The pool is heated only during part of the year, and then is frequenty too cold to get into. Value for the price...let's just say that BLA would still be over priced for Modesto, EVEN if the overall quality and design of the apartments were up to par, and the on-site staff had the proper support from the BLA's Owners; which reside out of town. A two bedroom-two bath, two car garage house can be rented for $1300-$1400/mo. in the Modesto area. The two bedroom, two bath w/one very narrow and short garage will cost you $1300-$1400/mo., plus BLA's water and garbage surcharge of $45. That's $1350 to $1450 per month! No wonder the vacancy rate is so high. I'll be leaving ASAP as well.
