Because they allow pets they try to scam you when you move out. I had one cat in the apartment who ***NEVER*** went to the bathroom on the floor. However when I moved in there was a blech stain on the carpet (I bet they charged the previous tenant for new carpet due to the stain) and the apartment was in exactly the same condition when I moved out, clean but with the pre-existing stain. I was told I had a credit of $65 on my account AFTER the walk through and that it would be mailed to me. I got a bill for $85 instead of a reimbursement. They claimed they had to replace the carpet due to "extreme pet urine stains" and I had to pay for it (this is over a month and a half after the final walk through, which I could not be there for) even though it had NEVER been mentioned before. I said that I wanted to see the apartment because I didn't believe that the carpet had been replaced. They refused. Previously I had lived in an apartment also managed by the same people and was forced to move on emergency after 7 days because the carpet was drenched in dog urine and had been perfumed when I moved in to hide the smell, when it wore off and was disgusting, there was also a HUGE flea infestation and dog feces on the patio. They refused to replace the carpet at this previous apartment yet they were charging me to replace perfectly good carpet' I fought it and received my reimbursement. I think a lot of people just pay and they make extra money this way. So watch out!

That is why when you move in, you fill out a "previous condition questionnaire" so as to document prior stains and defects in the assigned apartment unit.
