The Marina Apartments have great potential, if the owner of the complex fired it's employees. When my fiance and I moved in, we were told our deposit was $400. A week after we were moved in, we were called by Evelyn and told that it was actually $800, she made a mistake, but if we didn't pay, we had to move out. The cabinets are barely holding themselves together, we had a shower leak our first two weeks. The seals around the windows and doors we're so loose, you could feel a breeze with a fingertip. Our energy bill was through the roof to try to keep it warm. The maintenance lady lived right across the way, and we got tired of hearing her and her whatever boyfriend of the week yell at each other or party (And we were told she was the party police). After we want to get something better for what we we're paying for, we gave notice that we would not extend the lease and we would be out at the end of the month. Now, the office denies ever receiving any notice at all from us, so we get a call the week we we're to be out, and we were told that since we didn't tell them, we would be charged for another month, or the deposit of $800 would be taken. They also violated numerous landlord/renters rights laws as well. To this day, we have never seen a collection notice, a $800 check, or the letter required by law as to why we were not getting it back. I would not recommend this complex under any circumstances. As a juicy side note, months after we left the apartment, we ran into our old neighbor, who told us that they never rented it out, and remodeled it, and jacked up the price by $100. So if you stay in 106, that's where we were at. we are about to rent again, and will use Marina as a reference since we paid our rent, on time, every month, but if they give a negative referral, I will take them to court. So, if you have to rent from them, please be sure to MAKE THEM PUT EVERYTHING IN WRITING, even though it wont help, since the $400 deposit was on a signed document from both parties.
