When you're moving out, MAKE SURE...

Do not make the mistake that we did. When you're moving out, make sure you do a walk through with either the manager or a representative of the manager. I emphasize this, make sure you have them sign and date a document that says that they have done a walk-through with you; everything needs to be in writing otherwise you'll end up with a big bill (when I say big, I mean at least over $2000 in unrealistic expenses). This is just a friendly reminder. We did a walk-through and they said everything is really clean and they don't need to clean the apartment (unfortunately nothing in writing-all verbally) soon to find out we are stuck with a big bill that obviously we have to resolve it in court.

Unfortunately, my wife and I ended up in court against these guys. We thought we can trust the management; thinking they are trustworthy. My wife and I don't have any children. We don't smoke, we don't do drugs, we are both business people who are always out of town for business, and we are very clean. They gathered evidence from other apartments and because we didn't have access to the apartment we lived in we couldn't defend ourselves in court the legal way. One thing we learned the hard way is to make sure everything is in writing. Documents that are useful in court has to be in writing. Pictures should not be digital, and somehow you need to have a date in them (a newspaper with a date would help). We were charged for total carpet replacement, bathroom countertop re-surfacing, kitchen countertop re-surfacing, kitchen linoleum damage, apartment cleaning, blinds installation, painting, and trash removal (all of the above for $2780 for living in this apartment for about one year). How much damage could one couple who is never home and don't throw any parties cause? SO, PLEASE BE CAREFUL; THAT'S ALL WE CAN TELL YOU.
