My wife and I came to Hillcrest initially because it?s one of the few nice complexes that allows large dogs. In the time we?ve been here, we?ve come to feel very comfortable and settled in. The management seems to invest a lot of time and effort to remodel the units and update facilities like the pool and BBQ areas. The grounds are kept in fine shape and the units are surrounded by lush foliage. The only drawback to the dense landscaping is that the grounds become very dark in the evening. There could be better lighting, but this is more of an observation and I?ve never felt unsafe walking my dogs after dark . The sizeable population of Hillcrest is a good mix of all ethnicities and ages. No one paticular group seems to have a stranglehold on the culture of the community. My only complaints are really just pet peeves. The pool seems to get over run by groups of small kids and the exercise room lacks air conditioning. As for noise, there was only one party in recent memory that grew too loud. The only real noise is the occassional barking dog. If dogs are a sticking point for you, keep in mind that most apartment communities don?t allow any pets. You would have no problem finding housing elseware if dogs bother you. Those who complained about this issue in the reviews below obviously didn?t do their homework before moving in. If you?re a pet owner looking for well maintained housing in a mostly upper-middle class area of Ventura county, Hillcrest is a good place to check out.
