Horrible management

The company I work for placed me here during a three month contract in the area. I have a dog, and short notice, so there were few choices about where they could place me. The nightmare started before I arrived. The housing person asked me if I would mind being on the second floor. That I did not mind. She then asked if I would mind not having my own washer or dryer. That would not make or break living quaters. She sent me a link to their website, and I used both Mapquest and RandMcNally to map the address. I noticed it was extremely close to California Highway 101 - one of the most busy highways in the state. I said I had a problem with that. I did not want to deal with highway noise.
The housing person at my company contacted the management at this establishment and asked them about how close it was to the highway. The management stated that they do not get complaints about highway noise, and that there would be a dam, a parking lot, and a building between my apartment and the highway. When I arrived, I noticed that there was no dam, there is a drainage ditch from the highway. The "parking lot" is a row of cars that perpendicular park along the road that parallels Highway 101. And the only thing that I can figure could pass for being anything close to a building between my apartment and the highway is a garbage dumpster that is smaller than my Ford Explorer. I can see the highway from my balcony.
When I arrived, they would only give me one key because they did not have the account number for the electric company. My electricity was already on. My company had the electricity turned on and they were paying the bill. I did not have access to the account number. We called my company, and they immediately faxed the account number to them, but it took the wonderful management two days to figure out that they had the account number. I was given a second key to the residence at that time. I asked about a remote (for a garage,) and the woman looked at me like I was from another planet.

That is not to mention the fact that when I was given the key, I was given a map to the place and that was it. Your apartment is here, and the nearest laundry facility is here. (Not to mention the fact that the map shows 4 pools on the campus - including one in my "node" and there are only 3 - none of which are in my "node".) You would think that since there are about 500 units, there would be some kind of welcome packet or something, but they give you nothing. I wound up going back the next day to ask: How do I use the laundry rooms' (You need to buy an access card and put money on it) How do I get into the fitness room' The pool' The clubhouse' (They give you an access card - something they never bothered to give me - and the one they finally gave to me still does not work to get into the clubhouse and all of the pools) How do I use the alarm system'
After five days of residence, I noticed ants crawling in a (thankfully) empty closet. On day six it rained and the roof leaked. On day seven, I went to the management to tell them. Their response: The wet weather causes the ants to climb up out of the ground into the houses (to the second floor'). Too bad It had not rained until a day until AFTER I had seen the ants. I then had to pack up half the house so they could safely spray the house.
It has now been three weeks since I have arrived. Today they finally tried to inspect the roof. They knocked on the door the same time they were trying to open it with the master key. I guess they just assumed I worked days - I don't - I work nights. They were quickly turned back by my barking dog. My husband threw some shorts on and ran to the door, but they were gone. There was no note on the door. Later on, when we left the house, there was a post-it note on the door.
Today, after I returned from the grocery store, there was an envelope on my door for me with paperwork they want me to sign within 24 hours. One of which is a statement stating I received a garage door remote - something I never received. I have been parking on the street for the past three weeks because I was all but told that I was not getting one.

I have also discovered, that it is undesireable to use the laundry facilities in my "node" since undesireables in the neighborhood enter it, and go through your laundry. We have already had one incident where one of our washers had stopped with time remaining prompting us to re-select a cycle. Nothing was missing luckily. It was my husband and son's laundry. I was sleeping so my husband did not go into the bedroom to get my laundry. I don't know if it was some pervert looking for woman's clothing, or someone looking for money or wallets that may be accidently washed, as there was a sign in the laundry room asking someone to please return the wallet they took out of the washing machine they rummaged through. I now go to the laundry facility by the playground which has large windows and can easily be monitored by other residents.
On the bright side, the people here are very friendly. The dog owners here are generally responsible, and clean up after their dogs. There are some dogs that bark, but if it bothers you, you close your windows (just like you have to close your windows to close out the Highway 101 noise).

In response to your comments about the freeway-I had a friend who lived in these apartments for over a year. We never heard any freeway noise when we visited him. In fact, it never even registered in my mind that the 101 was there until you commented about it. You can't see nor hear it from these apartments.

I am looking for an apartment in this area, and my first thought was this structure. It has the lowest rent in the area and the biggest apartments. Although I do not live here myself, I heard no complaints from my friend that lived there up to less than 3 months ago.
