Worst Living Experience of My Life!

This has been the worst living experience of my life! Before I moved in, I made sure that there were no dogs in the apartment above the one I was interested in renting. I told the property manager who was showing me the apartment that I didn't want to live underneath barking, noisy dogs. She assured me that there were no dogs in the apartment above mine (which had been vacant for several months). Then after I moved in, I found out that there were two dogs that lived in the apartment above mine and they were left out on their patio every day, all day and night barking every few minutes, and when they were in their apartment, they were running around all the time which made it sound like a freight train on my ceiling! The owner would take the dogs near the front of my patio and my front door to urinate and crap and would never clean it up! Other people from other parts of the complex would also take their dogs to the front of my apartment to crap and urinate because there was a large dirt area. People would never clean up their dog crap. I would run into large dogs on a regular basis that were not on a leash and a couple of times when I had my garage open, large dogs who were not on a leash would come into my garage barking at me. I went through this for a year with voluminous letters to management. The property manager would put a warning letter on the upstairs tenant's door but would never follow-up on the situation. Things never changed. Finally, after months and months of my appeals to management to do something about the upstairs tenant's dogs, she moved out. Then, one month later, the property manager rented that same apartment to a new tenant with TWO LARGER DOGS WHO WERE EVEN WORSE THAN THE LAST TWO!!! I was shocked and upset to hear what sounded like an earthquake upstairs and then later that evening find two large dogs pissing in front of my front door! This was the last straw!

Another problem I had was mold growing in my apartment. I came home one night to find a plant-like spore popping out of the corner of my carpet near my air conditioning unit. Maintenance checked it out and confirmed that it was mold. They pulled up my carpet and put some kind of chemical solution on it and the property manager told me that she would have maintenance check on it every two weeks. Needless to say, management never checked on it at all! I specifically asked --------, the property manager, to let me know when they would come in to make sure the mold was gone and she said she would. Not once did she check on it or have maintenance check on it. She had no concern for my safety or my living environment. She knew about the two dogs in the apartment above mine and she knew about the mold but didn't care about either. Knowing what I had been through with the dogs, after the upstairs lady finally moved out (after 9 months of listening to her dogs barking day and night), management had the nerve to move two larger dogs into the same apartment above mine. Twice I was treated without concern for my living environment. I moved out immediately after letting -------- know how I felt about her lack of concern.
Then, I was supposed to receive a portion of my deposit back and never did. So I called the office and was given the runaround. I was told to call------------and when I did, he was rude and very unprofessional towards me. I finally called the Equity Corporate Office and e-mailed them regarding my issue with my deposit. They forwarded my e-mails to------------and once again I was told I would get my deposit by Federal Express but never did. I kept calling and e-mailing and only after I threatened to sue Equity Residential did I finally receive my deposit refund. This was just another negative experience with Country Oaks and Equity Residential.
I will never live there again and I will NEVER recommend Country Oaks Apartments to anyone!
