My husband and I were moving to Oakland, found a loft at Aqua Via that we really loved, and put a deposit down on it to hold the apartment. We were about to go on vacation, so the plan we discussed with the leasing agent (Stephanie) is we would return in four days to sign the lease. She said that was fine, and mentioned that she couldn't actually cash the check until we signed the lease, but that the check and application we filled out would hold the apartment. Then, after several attempts on our return of not getting in touch with her, my husband went by the place to get the leasing paperwork. Well, at that point they told us that they had lost our paperwork, along with the check, and they had rented the apartment to someone else! The odd thing is that Stephanie told us she was the only one handling that property - so we had to deal with her as the pirmary point of contact. Then, since we were out of options, we had to scramble and find another place to live in two days. As if that wasn't bad enough, I discovered that three weeks after this went down, they cashed the check! Now my bank account is overdrawn. I cannot believe the level of incompetence the management there has demonstrated.
