(Update 10/02) Yeah yeah yeah - it?s a little more than others. But every night when I drive in through the gate and see those trees and the gorgeous hills and it?s quiet and serene, I just go.....AHHHHHH. The complex itself is maticulously maintained, it?s QUIET, and a pleasure to come home to at night. (Update: I?ve been here five months now and am happy to say it?s beautifully quiet, all night, EVERY night. Kids playing out on the big lawns in the afternoon, neighbors are private but give a nice hello while walking to the mail box.)




The two bedroom unit has a great floorplan with two master suites. A laundry *room* in each unit that?s good sized. My parking space is about 40 feet from my front door. TONS of closet space. And for me in an upper unit, a deck out off the back which is HUGE.




To me, the extra $$?s worth it. If they jack the rent up too much (I?ve only been there a couple of months) then I?ll move. My only complaint is grocery/pharmacy are kind of far away (Update: While I was still learning when originally posted, I?ve found to get to any centralized place with grocery/drug/hardware requires a four or five mile trek on the freeway while in and of itself isn?t a deal breaker, is still a drag) and proximity to Bart is less than great but the beautiful surroundings make up for it.



Update: With regard to the poster in August of 2002 who was utterly horrified to find two nekkid people having sex in the hot tub one night, I can only wish my life were that good. As for the pistol whipping incident, I inquired with the front office (told them I?d read some not so happy stuff about it on the web) and they advised that this was apparently a whole SPREE of robberies that had taken place through the Oakland Hills that night and that two of the three guys were in fact caught. It?s my sense after five months here that the complex is safe, and people DO look out for each other, but hey - this IS Oakland. That aside, as a single woman - I feel good here.

Update - August 2003. I recently moved from Skyline Hills to a quiet location elsewhere. First of all, I *never* had a problem with the office staff and I would consider myself a fairly high maintenance tenant, i.e., everything needs to be working in my unit at all times or they'd hear from me. They knew me on a first name basis. My deposit was returned to me minus about $150 for cleaning which is fine because I asked them to clean the unit when I left.

I still feel as I noted above, this is a nice complex, but the location SUCKS. The surrounding neighborhood is a weird - a little rough right off the freeway but if you go up the hill on Keller, you hit the million dollar real estate zone. There's a LOT of roommate situations going on there, which I had difficulty with in that I never who had a sense of who lived in the actual surrounding units and who didn't. And then there was the stripper that lived around the corner and her merry band, but that's a whole other post.
