I have lived here in (the most expensive of the) 1 bedroom apartments at this complex-- Rents in Alameda County, and specifically Oakl have not increased; they have either decreased or stayed flat, there are numerous vacancies out there in Oakland, but Skyline Hills recently served a notice informing me that my rent would incr. to $1300 /mo (!) if I did not sign a 6-mo or 1-yr lease. Simultaneous with the incr., we are now "REQUIRED to participate" in a "Utility allocation program". Meaning that in addition to a rental incr., we now have to kick in $$ for EBMUD water, garbage and recyclables pickup. As a single income earner, given the overall local economic conditions, these increases are for me, unacceptable and unwarranted given that the rent at SKyline hills is already greater than $200 per month on average for a 1-br in Oakland. The City is building $700K condos at Monte Vista (old leona quarry), and is grading Keller Ave from the approach to Skyline Hills for additional housing, resulting in current and future construction noise, increased congestion.
In the summer, expect your southwest-facing apartment to get up to 95 degrees inside the unit due to poor insulation.
There is no justification to raising rent on an apartment that is already way above the medium for a 1 bedroom in Oakl. other than greed. I am seriously considering relocating to alternative housing now... There are better deals to be found without getting squeezed by the Skyline Hills owner. Keep your pool and tennis courts, as I don't use them much anyway.
