This review comes about nine months after moving out of Missions but is warranted.
After returning from my third deployment, I had a month till my EAS. A few days after I returned, I started looking for an apartment nearby that I could see myself living in long-term. Many apartments later, my friend and I discovered Missions. It was by far the cleanest and most appealing complex in the area.
Honestly, I'm quite skeptical at office staff in general. It is a business and once the contract is signed all you can do is cross your fingers and hope you made the right decision. We met Darlene when we went inside and were amazed at her warmth and kindness; to this day nothing has changed. After reviewing the floor plans and prices we went to see an open unit. It was a larger one bedroom with an awesome kitchen and counter space. The bedroom was a bedroom but with an awesome walk-in closet. The washer and dryer space was quite large and very quiet. All in all, we were quite impressed with everything.
Of course you get what you pay for so I was expecting it to be a little pricy. I asked for a price with a garage and the total came out to:
$1,560/mo.
1 br/1ba
garage 2 add. parking in front of garage (worked out great because I had a custom car and a full-size truck, my friend also had a full-size truck)
w/d
a/c
but the deposit was very low.
I, being the skeptic, wanted to look around some more but needless to say we came back within half an hour after realizing this was one of the nicer places in Oceanside with what we wanted. About a month into things I realized the ice maker wasn't working because the plastic wrapping got stuck in it but the next day after I left a message, maint. was on top of things and replaced it in a few minutes. Didn't have another problem the rest of the time.
I only had two pet peeves while I was there. The first being a dog that barked relentlessly throughout the day (I think he was lonely which is understandable). It ended about a week later and never had a problem with it. The second was a neighbor with a car system that didn't understand he makes everyone who has a system look bad when you play it loud in an apt. complex. Other than that, things were peachy.
Missions was close to a 24hr Fitness and two large shopping areas but traffic was always light on Frazee.
I ended up having to break my lease because I took a job about an hour away and driving was a huge drain on everything. Darlene and others in the office were very understanding in my situation and were very accommodating to my needs. After moving, the cleaning and other charges were minimal, not at all like other apts. that charge an arm and three legs for move-out costs. The fee to break the lease was two months rent which came out to around $3,120 but instead of using my deposit for cleaning/paint and other random charges and making me pay the full lease-break fee, they put the deposit towards the fee which helped. I thought this was quite awesome on their part; they could have easily used the deposit for other things and tack on other charges like other apts. do but I was impressed when Darlene explained to me they put the deposit towards the fee.
Of course I didn't have $3k to toss around like that since the costs of moving to a new place really pile up, and again they were understanding and let me make payments as I could over a number of months (the maint. guy even let me use his tools to take off a satellite dish after hours without worry, I just dropped it off at the desk before I left).
All in all, they were the best staff I have dealt with and the place was awesome. Fees are fees, everyone has them, and rules are rules. I recommend these apts. to anyone who doesn't mind paying a little more for them because they are well worth it. Living there for a few months Darlene still remembers my name when I call and is one of the easiest individuals to deal with.
Bad news spreads faster than good news so I'm putting my experience out there. I hope this helps all who need an unbiased opinion.
