Shortly after my son was born, my husband got stationed at Camp Pendleton. I stayed in Fresno with some relatives while my hubby went to go get a place to stay in Oceanside- he didn't have much time, so he didn't look anywhere else; he just settled for presidio. The second I walked into our crapartment, I wanted out. Our bathroom faucet emitted a smell of rotten eggs whenever in use, the water tasted AWFUL, and the complex in general was terrible. When our son was three months old, we started finding spiders everywhere. I'm paranoid about cleaning and germs (especially with our baby around), so needless to say I kept the place sparkling and was horrified when our place became infested with huge spiders. I stopped by the office immediately and requested that they do something about the spiders. The staff acted like I was speaking a foreign language, but eventually told me they'd have someone come to spray our place down that Wednesday. Wednesday came and went- and no one ever came to help us with our problem. I called EVERY DAY- I left messages, I spoke with staff, etc. and still nothing was done. Shortly afterwards, our baby started acting strangely and I discovered a spider bite on his neck. He began to get really sick, and we ended up having to take him to the hospital. Fortunately for us, tricare takes care of all medical bills, so we didn't have to worry about that. At all hours of the day and night our windows were rattling because of the idiots hanging out around their cars with their ------ music blasting. I was taking the trash out one day when a TEN YEAR OLD came up to me and asked me for pot. The security was a complete joke, and Oceanside PD was there nearly every night, carting people off in handcuffs. We could hear quiet discussions from our neighbors upstairs, and we were always well aware of when they were using the toilet. We woke up one mornin to hear a dripping sound coming from our light fixtures in our bathroom- it turned out our neighbors' kids left their faucet running, and so our place got flooded. When we contacted management, they did nothing to help the problem. When our son began to walk, I thought it would be nice to take him to the kid's play area. BAD IDEA! Everything was graffitied, there were teenagers hanging out and drinking on the equipment, the equipment smelled like urine, and I'm sad to say it, but none of that is the worst part of the play area. The worst part was the fact that there was a man hanging out by the kid's play area EVERY DAY, drinking from a brown paper bag and trying to get kids to come over to him. I asked one of my neighbors (who had been stuck there longer than us) about the guy, and she informed me that he just got out of jail---- he was incarcerated because he was a PEDOPHILE. Door to door salesmen and jehova's witnesses were at our place every day, making it impossible for us to get our son to take a nap. My father is an attorney in the central valley that prosecutes slumlords. I sent him our lease and gave him all of the information I've stated here, and he confirmed my suspicions- Presidio is slumlord central. They get away with it because most of the people stuck living in that hell on earth don't have the money or education to seek legal counsel. The day we moved out was by far the happiest day we spent in Oceanside. If we ever moved back there, it would be because someone had a gun to our heads.
