Alot of people arent aware of the type of crowds most california beaches attract. While alot of people have money that live around here, alot of people also dont. You will find BmW's and Lexus parked on the side of the road and a bum asking for change on the sidewalk next to them. I ve lived in nice areas and dumps so i can pretty much handle anything. Most of the people that live here are friendly, but odd and most people just keep to themselves, but there are your few "colorful" people that live here. Thats to be expected. They are constantly fixing/ turning off water because the building is like 80 years old along with all the old school piping. But they try to do it during the week on work days so it doesnt interfere with peoples evening or morning schedules. It used to be an old hotel and you can kind of tell. It ads to a cute old feel inside the actual units. We live in an apartment that has a view so we dont hear most of the apartment comotion. The walls are thin, but again the building is old. THe rent is great, but for a reason. There was a murder here two weeks ago and the suspect lived here and was put away. Which is fabulous that he's gone, But he was a constant problem for this complex. They allow pretty much anybody to live here by the looks of it, which doesnt bother me, but it seems like they dont respect the property. The location is the best you are going to find for this price in San Diego period. So you really cant expect alot for the price vs. the location. But we heard from another tentant they are trying to raise the rent by two hundred dollars and i find that completely absurd considering someone was stabbed to death by someone that lived here two damn weeks ago. But they have finally hired onsite security, so thats a great thing. They shouldve already had it though, most apartments do. Thats another thing. They are constantly letting bank appraisers into the apartment because I guess they have been trying to raise the rent for a while. Yes they let themselves into your home during the day but management will post a note on your door letting them know they are going to invade your privacy. I dont know who would rent here for more than we pay though. Gas and Electric is also included which you will not find anywhere else. This is the beach and the summer is loud and the weekends people park on Pacific street and walk to the bars and walk around the streets drunk and screaming even though noise laws are enforced. 75% of people walking around here dont live by the beach so they think everyone is on vacation and are totally disrespectful to the fact that people live here too. There arent enough parking spots to units but we've been here for a little while and there were only a few times where we cant find parking right out front. Maybe a half a block away or in back of the apartment complex at worst, but i like to walk and im not a lazy ------- like most people. They allow dogs. One of the only places that allows dogs of all types, which is awesome because we have the sweetest pit bull and no apartment would take her. So again we dont have alot of options. But beware if you have a dog and move in. Fleas are a problem. Our dog has never had fleas in her life and the second the humidity came with summer, she was infested. Which meant our bed as well. It was awful. And it is pointless to bomb because they are in the carpeting in the complex hallways. We vaccuum probably three times a week and wash sheets pillows and pillowcases every week. We also have to treat her with front line twice a month instead of once because there were so many they just wouldn't die! Having an A/C in the bedroom helps because fleas thrive on humidity and heat and cant survive in the cold. YOu have to stay on top of mold and mildew, so keep your bathroom window open. I wipe down the window sills everyday with clorox wipes and an environmentally friendly cleaner. I also use 409 once in a while because it will guarantee killing any mold/mildew. There is nothing you can do about it, you live right across from the water the moisture will do it to any apartment whether its a shack or a billion dollar home. But you have to stay on top of it because if you let it go it will grow and it can make you and your pet very sick. Management changes alot. The last one was okay, but this new one seems to be getting down to business, they do fix the apartments up pretty good before everyone moves in. Most peole i think live hard in these units, every time i pass someones door way and they are walking out their unit their homes look like dumps. We probably have kept ours the nicest and we like to have nice things and are clean people. I really cant say that for alot of people that live here. We had fairly new carpeting, new paint, a new toilet and new ceiling fans. We also have a great view. You cant beat it really. So if you are prepared i would say this is an okay place to live. I guess its 50/50. Its half awesome and half bad.
