When I first moved in, I had a noisy apartment and disgusting neighbors who attracted roaches like crazy (and of course, this meant my apartment was also infested). I complained and management moved me to another unit and then evicted the old neighbors (they were also breaking just about every rule in the lease).

That was almost a year ago and I've been pretty happy ever since. It's not perfect, but for the price and location, it's hard to beat. It is Section 8, so you'll have to bring in all your income info once a year to get re-evaluated. Management is pretty good if you just play by their rules (which is not that hard to do).

Noise can be a problem depending on where your apartment is. If it's near the basketball courts, playgrounds, or parking lots, you might get annoyed, but if it's more inside the complex it's not so bad. The complex is kept up really nice and they paint and put new carpet in after tenants move out. It's owned by the City of Palm Desert, which has a lot of money, so maintenance and upkeep are top notch.

There are some problems with crime, but with so many people living in such a small area, it's bound to happen. Since it is a low income property, there are a lot of shady people around, but there are also a lot of nice, normal people around too.

Basically, it's not the greatest place in the world, but it's far from the worst. Especially if you're young and don't have a lot of money, and the location can't be beat, especially considering the rising cost of gas.
