Was the nicest apartment complex in north Orange County

Hidden among thriving orange groves, Villa Angelina was the nicest apartment complex in north orange county for many years. I worked as a maintenance man, painter and resident of VA in the early 1970's. It was named after the niece of Estelle Kramer (Angelina) who, with her brother and a live-in maid, resided there in her later years (the Kramer and Chapman families settled the area long ago and were very influential in its development in the late 1960's and early 1970's).

I always thought the large two-bedroom units were quite unique in their floor plan, having a full size kitchen, two baths, a back yard (for the bottom units) and plenty of storage area. Also convenient are the laundry rooms located on each floor, and a locker area, too. I spent many fond hours playing chess with several tenants in the recreation room, and attended Christmas and other holiday parties there as well. The company that managed the property (Harbor Management) was responsive and hired competent people to run its operations. Ed Shepard and his wife managed VA back then, and Bill Williams and myself maintained the property. We all shared a sense of pride in how smooth operations ran, and how beautiful everything looked from the street on a clear summer day with the scent of orange blossom in the air.

But, like everything else, things change over time and I haven't been by there in years so I'd expect things to have aged. I don't know who the current owners are but I'm sure they have their hands full. If I remember correctly there are some 260 units nestled among pleasant landscaping and walkways that always require maintenance to keep them looking good. I hope they are taken as good of care as we did back when they were built. They really do deserve it.
