Luxury apartments...give me a break! For 2k in this part of town, you'd at least expect some decent sound-proofing between the floors. I swear I have a elephant living above me on the third floor - it's quite maddening to hear loud stomping throughout the day and night. The management even went so far as to write letters to everyone asking them to lower the noise because of all of the complaints. Good luck with that.

Be wary...be very wary of luxury places such as this, which look good on the surface. Upon closer inspection, you'll see this place for what it is...a hastily built complex with poor quality throughout. Don't make the same mistake...look elsewhere.

I live in Pleasant Hill also, by the movie theater and my rent is less than a grand but I too have the same problem. I've finally resorted to banging back on ceilings. I think it's like that everywhere (Walnut Creek Archstone, condos, etc.). I turn on music or the TV to drown it out when they insist on stomping. Sometimes though, they do make an effort not to stomp but I still hear cracking noises when they tiptoe. Goodluck. Maybe the houses will still come down some more.

I live near Villa Montanaro and saw the place go up. It seemed like one day I drove by and they were breaking ground, and the next day they were ready for renting. I remember thinking about how well constructed they must (not) be. I lived in alot of apartments before I finally bought my condo 5 years ago and I learned the hard way: if you treasure your peace and quiet, never, ever, rent a unit where there's someone living above you. This is still no guarantee that you'll have peace and quiet (I used to live at Bay Landing before it became an Archstone and was on the top floor of my building and some ding dong moved in below me who played his tv set so loud, if we were watching the same channel, I didn't need to have my volume on at all). Even if I liked the complex, if they told me there were no top floor units available, I said no thank you. You may be lucky and start out with someone really considerate above you, but there's no guarantee that they will stay and that Mr. Lead Foot moves in a few months later. Even when I bought my condo, I bought a top floor unit because I was really scared of buying a place I would end up hating and be stuck with it (fortunately, I rented the condo for the first six months so I knew what I was getting -- and it was quiet). They do build condos better -- at least the one I'm in.
