Horrible floorplan...not a bad complex!

We lived here a few years back. "Via Serena" brings back so many memories, of one of our first apartments. I think our rent back then was $960...now we pay about $1k more than that. Compared to a lot of the condo communities in that area at the time, Avalon was actually a really nice one.

They had great maintenance!!! The only complex where we received a FULL deposit back. Very clear directions on how to do this. They had contests at the time rewarding renters who turned in their rent on the 1st. We never won, but it was a very nice gesture. Parking lot always had ample parking, and detached garage was very big. Big enough to park an SUV plus tons of storage.

Neighbors were teenagers who always smoked pot, along with the neighbors. The people below us, a family of 12 (looked like it), were always getting robbed. We never had an incident, but we noticed a lot of robberies in our building and nearby. We made the mistake of getting an apartment on santa margarita......day and night traffic noise!!! Patio was cute, but was full sun...which in Rancho is like scorched earth conditions. We couldn't water the plants fast enough!

We always noticed a lot of hoodlums in the area, looking around all the time. The place wasn't gated, so it looked like people were scoping out the place. Floor plans were horrible. Gigantic living, tiny bedrooms, no closet space. Store EVERYTHING in the garage, because you barely have enough room in your closet for shirts. Paper thin walls, which went a long with Rancho's horrible reputation for construction worthiness. My brother bought a condo in Rancho, that had the same issue.

Proximity to everything including the lake, shopping centers, movie theaters were awesome. We could literally walk to restaurants and parks. Very nice pool areas and BBQ locations. Neighbors around the complex were generally nice, and the leasing staff was very polite.

Ants were a problem, but what can you expect from RSM. We live in A.V. now, and it isn't much different. Overall, other than the floor plans which were not that impressive, the place was a nice place to start out at. Would never live there again, and probably wouldn't recommend to higher end renters, but for starting out...it wasn't that bad.
