Skyview is pretty good, overall

This complex is well situated far enough from the mainstream traffic of Orange County (OC) such that one can move around. RSM itself is getting crowded and overrun by uneducated -------- like the rest of OC, but this site rates apartments. Here it is:

The physical condition of the apartments is very good. They do more than just pick up the trash we unthoughtfully toss out on the grounds. Really, it is my favorite complex around.

The price is too high. They increased over 20% in the past 3 years. My salary did not. So we moved out.

The garages are nice to have. Yes, they are small. Most people smack the wall at least once. Yet garages are hard to find in apartments around there. So the fact that they have garages is a good thing. That, and washer-dryer hookups put Skyview in limited company.

As other people have pointed out, many jerks that live there use the garages for storage. This, in turn, creates the parking problems. I think that the "audits" they do should be unannounced, frequent, and that people should be evicted for violating this rule they have--the garage is for the car. It not only creates the problem of parking, but it is a drag to have people hanging out, loading and unloading. There is a mini storage facility 2 miles away. Use it. Garage 333 is perhaps the most abused. These people hang out in lawn chairs. There is one other one that is so full that the fire department would shut down this complex if discovered.

The staff at Skyview is above average. I read the other blogs. I agree that at times the staff seems not to have time for us all. If they added one more person, it would be just right. The current staff is professional and they know what they are doing. They either need to add a body, or reduce the high prices (thus they would not need the extra person). They send out reminders and they accept packages for us. If they seem a little snotty, good. This is supposed to be a nice place with minimal riff raff (excluding garage 333, of course).

I saw the "drug dealer" comments. There was one unit I suspected. They are so gone, very quickly I might add. Too bad though. The nearest bar is quite a distance.

The maintainence staff was good. I personally do not care if the white guy they just canned used to hang out and drink beers after 5PM. He was one of the best maintainence guys I've seen. The new boss of Maintainence is mexican. I like him too. And the rest of those guys are OK. They are all -------- now. But do not worry. They are all legally here, you can bet on that.
Illegal aliens are not tolerated at Skyview, not even as tenants.

Noise problems do exist. There are some real inconsiderate people that come and go. The walls are paper thin. This is shared living. Parties are not a good idea at Skyview. Neither are kids or pets.

Kids are a blessing, except at Skyview. There is nothing for them to do. The entry has a sign that says, no skateboarding, no roller skating, no fun. There is no place for your dogs to take a comfortable dump either. There's no grass. It's all concrete. And you can hear dogs barking 2 or 3 units over. Kids and dogs should not be allowed, for their own sake.

A couple of people complained about getting ripped off when they moved out. They have a great process which invloves an inspection a week or two prior to departure. This gave us the opportunity to address issues that the maintainence chief pointed out to us. They gave me some paint early on so I could do some touch-ups. We got most of our deposit back. They only charged us for some paint (not labor) and some carpet cleaning. I cannot speak for others. But we were treated well on the way out.

Do I recommend Skyview Apartments' Yes, I do. I recommend Skyview to professionals and couples. It is safe. It is well run. It is a bit pricey, but that will correct itself when the inevitable housing market crashes in OC. I believe this would be OK for a quiet student too. I believe that the staff is good and that most problems are tenant driven.

If you are a party animal, are a noisy person, have kids, have pets, have more than one car, have a bad attitude, are a packrat, are a jerk, I would not recommend Skyview.

It all depends on you at Skyview.
