Keep your kids safe . . . DON'T MOVE HERE!

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2002

OK so I moved here in May of 2002 . . . right after I graduated from college. I was in a hurry to get a place so I didn't have to live with my parents. I should have looked elsewhere, but I was young and dumb!

It was my first apartment and although you can't beat the price for a small one-bedroom, I would say that paying more for safety is definitely worth it. I'm just happy that I only signed a 6-month lease . . . I lasted here for 3 months and then got a new place and paid double rent for 3 months just so I could get out!

_POSITIVES_

#1) Price. Very affordable for the area if you are willing to sacrifice peace of mind.

#2) Location. RSM is a great city . . . There are some great trails and areas to walk nearby and the shopping centers nearby have virtually everything!

_NEGATIVES_

#1) Complex upkeep.
The facilities are substandard. Most places in RSM are by far more well-maintained compared to this. For example, I saw several broken garage doors, broken gym equipment (probably broken by the children left there by their negligent parents), broken washers and dryers, sloping upstairs balconies, and saw serious structural damage to the property (large cracks, water stains, MOLD in the bathroom, kitchen, ceiling, patio)

#2) Management.
The a/c was inoperable the day I moved in. I asked to have it repaired. I was even very flexible about it. As of the day I moved out, it had not been repaired, despite my daily phone calls to the office.

#3) Management, part II
I paid a $99.00 deposit and lived there for *almost* three months. I did NO damage to the place. I never put anything on the walls and had throw carpets everywhere so the carpet was in the exact same condition as when I moved in. These jerks actually charged me an extra $100.00 in cleaning fees... they even listed "oven cleaning" . . . I never used the oven, not even once! *AND* I cleaned it when I left! I would have fought it (I have a move in video and move out video along with pictures), but I didn't want anything to mess up my credit and it was worth the $$$ to make them go away. If you move here be CERTAIN to do the video/pictures thing to protect yourself. I'd hate to find out what they charge you during move-out if you live there more than three months!

#4) Safety.
I was constantly fearing for my safety. On several occasions, the police stopped by looking for a former tenant . . . I kept getting harrassing letters left on my door by former drug customers of the former tenant. I called the police in Santa Ana to tell them that I was not the person they were looking for, but the little visits continued. This is the main reason I moved out . . . however, if you have kids, then here's a reason not to move here:

Then one time I went down to the pool and there were 2 couples engaging in physical activity with eachother IN THE POOL It was quite indecent. . . I had a new place within 3 hours of that event.

Please be careful if you move here. Police are here constantly as are the criminals that attract them! If you are a single adult female, don't do it! If you have kids, don't do it! I'd be willing to bet that this complex has more meth labs than Riverside.
