No better value on Peninsula, all things considered

Given that people are ten times more likely to complain when they are upset than they are to compliment when they are happy, please multiply my ratings by ten when comparing them to the multitude of whiners who populate this board??and apparently inhabit my apartment complex.

I fell in love with Franklin Street three years ago and still think it represents an incredible value. I acknowledge that it is not without faults:
* Caltrain is very close and they have been doing a lot of work on the tracks/bridge lately, so it helps to be a heavy sleeper
* The elevators tend to break down, particularly when it rains??but we all can use the exercise!
* The neighborhood is no downtown Menlo Park but it??s also a far cry from East Palo Alto??I personally feel safe in the area and appreciate the ethnic diversity

Meanwhile, Franklin Street has a lot going for it that no other complex on the Peninsula at this price can match:
* 24-hour Fitness Center with a good selection of equipment
* Pool and spa that are clean and well-kept
* Five minute walk to Caltrain, Blockbuster, Century Theater, Safeway, and countless cafes and restaurants at Sequoia Station and downtown Redwood City
* Easy access to 101 and 280 with some of the cheapest gas on the Peninsula in the Whipple/El Camino Real area
* Ample gated underground parking with sizable spots (no door dings)
* Contrary to some of the other comments you??ve seen, the day-to-day staff (Johnny & Eva) are extremely friendly and helpful and have been there since the beginning
* Cat-friendly community

Unlike the other posters on this board, but presumably like the vast majority of my neighbors, I have never had any issues with security. I have parked a car on the street for years and never had a problem??probably because I don??t leave my valuables sitting out to tempt would-be thieves.

The bottom line is that Franklin Street, while not perfect, is the best value on the Peninsula for active, professional Caltrain commuters like myself. If anyone else can find a better deal with the same amenities, please let me know. Otherwise, I??ll be staying until the Bay Area housing market completes its crash!
