Quality Apartment, but neighborhood has gone down hill

I've lived in a 2Br/2Bath apt for over 3 years and for the most part have really enjoyed the stay. The apartments are fairly modern (big dishwashers, garbage disposals, built-in microwave, and nice electric range), they are maintained well and they are a good size.

If someone lives above you you have to pray they are quiet, but that's true of any place. The maintenance was a little slow in getting things done, but they always did what was asked and they did a fairly good job. The grounds are nice (many trees and lots of grass), but there is no real place to chill our enjoy the outside unless you live in one of the few apartments that have some grass behind the building.

Parking can be a pain if you have more than 1 car, but it's better than not having a spot at all. I certainly have cursed the parking gods many a times while walking back from a spot that seemed further than I would park from my apt if I lived in a major city. The security is a bit of joke, which is both good and bad. The good part is that if you do park in a no parking zone, usually you'll just get a warning "citation". However, if someone parks in your spot unlawfully, they are just as aggressive to get them out as if you were parked in a tow away zone.

My biggest complaint about the place has been the increase in the free rent places they seem to be offering to people. I'm not quite sure how that works but I assume it involves some kind of "work-in-exchange-for-rent" deal. I think this has led to a lot of shady characters inhabiting the neighboring apts or maybe we've just had bad luck with our neighbors. Over the years, however, I would say that the quality of the people who live here has gone down. Some of the residents have gotten less considerate. For example, leaving furniture in shared hallway space, dropping items off balconies, and being messier with common space. I think the complex has been managed pretty well, but it doesn't make up for the degradation in the quality of the tenants.

When all is said and done, if you want a nice place to live and don't mind who lives around you this is a decent bet. If your neighbors make a difference to you, this can be a bit of a gamble and in my humble opinion is a bit overpriced for what they can offer.
