'Cause I Moved On Up!... (Straight Outta Hilltop)

Sweet! H-top up in the hizzy! A place to voice my experience at "The Compound". That's what we referred to it during our last couple of years there. It felt like you were on 'lock-down' after the sun went down. The free weights and doberman's on the balconies only added to the ambiance. Where do I start' Let's see. Used to love going to get my mail and seeing the mailboxes broken into.
I loved when you went to do laundry 2 out of the 3 machines were "out of order', i.e., the cash box were stolen, and the other one swallowed what quarters you had left. And, if you did manage to 'wash' your clothes, once you put them into the 'dryers' once they were done, the next person would just pile all your clothes in a hot wad and leave you to have to deal with all those wrinkles! College days all over again!
Always got a laugh at how the wooden "security" gates were always blown-off and splintered into a thousand pieces, or how two cars would follow in right after you before the gate closed. Or how I'd be woken up from hearing the "ga-thunk, ga-thunk" sound as cars raced over the metal teeth at the gate entrance. When it rained' Forget about it. Water would leak in from the window frames, I remember several nights falling asleep to the 'drip-drip' of water filling a coffee can as it caught the rain. The maintenance lady showed up and said I was on the list to get repairs, but what she failed to mention was that there were about 75 apts in front of me. The pool was always nice with that ever present film of oil always coating it.
There was a whole herd of stray cats and I loved how they always used to 'spray' on my morning paper or my door. By the way, they never found out I had two law abiding pets living there illegally! Face! Parking used to be good, but then this guy used to store 3 NON-WORKING heaps of junk and just rotate them from stall to stall. Those warning forms that used to try to look like tickets really scared parking violators and never fixed the problem. The "security guards" never did anything except open that wooden security gate (again, when it wasn't BLOWN off and full splintered) constantly for non-residents. Did I also mention sit in the guard shack and surf the internet all night while cars and apartments were getting vandalized'
I do miss those Labor Day bbq's by the pool with that 'DJ' blasting music until 11:00PM... At least the 'ga-thunk, ga-thunk' was drowned out!
The staff were inept and not friendly at all, except when you were dropping off that check for nine-hundo! Robots could do their job, or my dog if I shaved his hind quarters and taught him how to walk backwards.
Do yourself a favor and move to the new places they have springing up all over hilltop. Have to thank old H-Top for making me get off my behind and buy some property. Where am I now' Me and my peeps are full kicking it freestyle in the 707. It's amazing how pleasant life can be and how much my car insurance dropped!
For all of you still there, it's not too late. Take the last helicopter "straight outta Hilltop"! Fa-shizzle my nizzles!
