I Enjoy my Apt, but Must be Attentive

Overall, I find living here to be convenient, but I would advise any who rent here to know your tenant rights and be very vigilant. As a young single professional, it was very easy to apply for an apartment here. The deposit was fairly low, since many places ask for a deposit that is equal to a months rent. The staff is very friendly, available, and helpful. For instance, theyve been great when Ive had packages delivered; but in terms of handling rental negotiations, can be ignorant and ineffective. I am minutes away from the freeways, restaurants, and shopping areas. I like how its close to the city but its far enough and the apt is spacious enough to enjoy your living space. Staff have attempted to bring to the complex a sense of community by organizing some holiday events, pizza nights, Tupperware nights, etc. The gym is good, but I am disappointed that they discontinued having aerobic classes.
The noise level is pretty low, but it is dependent on the location of your apt. I had a canyon behind me, and all my neighbors were pretty reasonable and considerate.
Ive had the most problems with parking, maintenance and rent increases. Parking can be atrocious for those with two cars or visitors but there are parking spaces that exist for those who dont mind the walk; maintenance requires multiply calls, and the rent increases for renewing your lease are expensive. Obviously, the management is not looking out for the tenants best interests, but if you know the system, then you can handle this. Being a renter in several Bay area apartments, there are many selfish landlords out there, and Hilltop Bayview is no worse than many out there, and I think overall, the benefits outweigh the cons.
The most annoying and saddest thing is the existence of a growing feral cat colony in the complex that live by the garbage dumpsters. Some irresponsible pet-owner abandoned their unneutered cat, and now there is an abundance of stray cats and kittens. Does the management not notice this' Or do they let problems grow until there are enough complaints'
