2 Strikes Against Us

From: isabelsidney@aol.com

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004

In April 2003 - just two months after having moved in, our front door was vandalized. This happened during the 8pm hour and security was sitting parked at the leasing office -- had they been driving around, they would've noticed the wrongdoing and nipped it in the bud. Instead, my wife came home from a bridal shower (I was at a beach bonfire) and found all of this shaving cream and a nasty note and feminine hygene products stuck all over the door made to look used.
I called quite upset and left a message for the leasing office. They did clean it up. But we felt violated.

Fast forward to Friday February 6. I come home @ 5:55pm. I notice our bedroom light on and the guestroom light on as well. I figure that my wife is doing something as she usually gets home before I do.

As I approach the door....I hear something...and run to the windows....and notice that our bedroom window has been shattered and we've been burglarized....and quite possibly the burglar is still inside.

I dialed 911 and then the Nordic security for the complex. Police were there with canine unit immediately. When the Nordic person showed up, they left.....I was like "What'!" I had to call them twice, mind you.....as I wanted them to take a report...I couldn't believe he'd left.

Now, this burglary took place in broad daylight. Took place between 12:30pm and 5:55pm -- and the Corona Pointe staff is on duty during that time. That's what irks the heck out of me -- this could've been prevented had someone been driving the complex on a usual basis. Fact of the matter is, the perpetrators through a large rock, a bit smaller than a volleyball through our window and broke in through there. Before that, they had attempted getting in through our sliding glass window as their was evidence of them jumping the fence and trying to get in to the house that way. They also tried the guest bedroom window (where the police got fingerprints) and finally hurled a rock into our bedroom.

We estimate our loss at approximately $3,200.00. In that loss was: DVD player, VCR, 40 DVD's, Golf Clubs, Golf Bag, Golf shoes, Camcorder, all of my wifes jewelry including the set she wore in our wedding, two watches, two sets of earphones that we use at the gym. And get this, they even went through our refrigerator!! Maybe they thought they'd steal a cold piece of chicken or pizza, I guess.

On top of all that was stolen, they ransacked the entire apartment...they went though every drawer and practically emptied it all over the place. We had some bags of clothes that were bagged up to give to CHOC or Salvation Army and they ripped them apart and the contents were strewn all over the place.

Upon our discussion the next day with the Leasing office, they told us point blank - "Your Security is not our responsibility." That proves to be true since the security gates NEVER work. Any riff-raff can come in at any old time of the day. That's when they offered to move us to another apartment for $150. So, my next verbiage was "We are going to break our lease." After two strikes made against us like that, we have no other choice.

We've learned some 'not good' stuff about this complex as well, since we moved in. Had we heard about the stuff we learned before we moved in, we'd not have moved in. For instance, there was a rape two doors down in 2001. There was another rape in one of those little laundry rooms with the coke machines. On top of that, the Police Helicopter circles the place almost every night, and with the fact that the gates are open, it makes us cringe. We wonder if we'll get struck again for the 3rd time. By the way, in our area, there have been multiple car break ins and other burglaries....in fact, the night we were doing the police report, another set of officers came in looking for an apartment nearby that had ALSO been burglarized!

Currently we are getting our claim together for our insurer, but it's a hassle.

My point being, if you should take a look at this place, drive the entire thing. The main drag where you drive from the Pierce Gate to the leasing office is simply pristine. Shrubs are nice and timmed, buildings look fresh and clean. Ours' We must be the ugly stepchild when it comes to that because ours has little circles all over the building with cobwebs....the carports are all bent up where larger trucks have hit them and bent them all up -- looks really bad. The apartment complex takes no pride in the place -- they really don't.

We are making an emergency move on February 18. We don't want to wait around for strike three, you know'
