Great service until you sign

Foremost problem with this community is it has a lot of trouble residents. People regularly steal from the laundry, crash the front gate, litter, and vandalize. Too often I am jolted from my sleep late at night or early morning by people honking horns instead of using phones or knocking on doors. I was once assualted after respectfully asking a women to refrain from honking after 9 PM. She returned with her husband who proceeded to try to beat the crap out of me for "dissing" his wife!'

Next problem is with management that doesn't seem to be authorized to make mgmt decisions. Doesn't provide reasonable service. Often treats me like I am irrelevant. I have been here for years and have seen a gradual improvement but it's still unacceptable.

Mgmt raised my rent from $750 to 965/month just like that (month to month). Would make NO concessions despite the significant increase (i.e. escalate over six months, 200 off for signing a lease, etc). Sure, the landlord should charge market rent. No problem with that. But when making a 15% increase at renewal, at least offer a gradual change or a small concession. And that is a market concession if it makes or breaks a deal. While I signed a short extension because of the inconvenient timing, I plan on moving shortly, mostly because of a notice I received today (read on).

Over the years, I have had intollerably noisy neighbors like I lived next to a fraternity house. Mgmt refused to comply with city ordinances that require the landlord to control the noise.

When I called mgmt's after-hours courtesy patrol to tow a car that had parked in my reserved spot, mgmt informed me that it would not do so and that I would have to do so myself. This happened despite signs posted to the contrary that would legally permit them to tow the offending party.

Provided notice to tow my vehicle when left in the same legally parked space for two days. (My car was in good condition and repair and was registered).

In almost six years of residence, I have NEVER provided a bad check, though was late by a couple days 3 times over six years. My punishment was a requirement to pay in certified funds despite my PERFECT credit risk with them. To be perfectly fair, they did provide a one time exception, however, when my creditworthiness is not in question, the $30 late fee should suffice.

Mgmt unilateraly changed rental agreement by decreasing the water pressure well below the agreed upon amount when I moved in. My assigned parking spot is three buildings aways from my apartment and mgmt promised 4 months ago to remedy but still hasn't.

The washing machines have stolen about $6 from me to date but the mgmt refused to provide a refund. The reason is that they lease the laudry rooms out. So what'! The fact that the washing machines are outsourced doesn't mean they can't remedy the problem by providing appropriate refunds and dealing with their vendor once a month versus each resident doing so each time.

The location of my apartment building (likely never made part of the tour) is constatnly littered and has an accumulation of filth. Most of the high visibility grounds are very well kept.

I just received a notice that when my lease expires, I will have to either move into a different apartment or completely vacate the premises. I expect this has something to do with the fact that my apt is one of the few which have not been renovated yet. If I were mgmt and had an awesome tenant of six years, I would provide him the courtesy of not requiring him to relocate and would simply renovate when he concluded his stay. What's it to them' In the meantime, who else will see the place but me' Get real, folks.

I should add that mgmt has done a good job of promptly responding to maintenance requests. Overall, however, while they have a couple service-oriented staff in the leasing office, the above experiences necessarily reflect mgmt's positions which, unfortunately, are inconsistent with what I would expect from having interacted from a couple service-oriented staff.
