Here's my take on Spruce Village- It's not too bad overall, could be improved in areas. It's pretty quiet except for the dude with the lowered "smurf blue" car that guns his engine while driving through the parking lot. Hardly ever hear our neighbors, sometimes you can hear kids outside screwing around late at night, but what can you do, it's basically all college students here. The maintenance people seem to be pretty quick, I've never had a problem with them. We've needed a few things fixed and they did it. The place is clean, they take pretty good care of it compared to other places I've seen. We had ants but they were only a problem for a couple days and they vanished. Most of the mess is from the residents themselves doing things like tossing their garbage bags over the gate instead of actually taking the time to open it and make sure things go in the trash bins! Never used the pool or laundryroom but the weight room is nice. One thing that sucks (especially when UCR starts up) is the parking situation. If you have two cars good luck. You get one space per apartment, and since it's like 80% students, there's usually a bunch of people in each dwelling with multiple cars. There's not enough spaces, plus the city will ticket you for parking in the empty lot across the street. Be prepared to call the two company because everyonce in a while someone's parked in your space late at night! The management is pretty good, even though I've heard about some stupid things they shouldn't have done. I think sometimes they take advantage of the fact that most residents are college students and won't complain or stand up for their rights. As far as safety, I've never felt like there was a problem. True, the first month I lived here I saw a SWAT team break into an apartment across the way, and I saw a few asian kids get in a fight over a Playstation and a PC, but since then I haven't seen the po po around at all. Our car got broken into once but nothing major was stolen. I've never seen any wierdos hanging out mostly just students and eople that drive too fast through the parking lot. Overall, not a bad place to live.
