Last month the apartment complex was sold. New managers and maintenance personnel from FPI were brought in to take care of Somerset Hills. In the last four weeks, since FPI took over, this complex has gone from an A rated property to a D/D- rated property. It didn't take long and it is not just a transition, this is just the beginning.

The new managers will not listen to any complaints. We have complained about the growing problems of crime, noise at all hours, trash that never gets picked up around the grounds and rudeness from the maintenance man. We were told that they are there to rent apartments not deal with trivial complaints, "it's not their job." We disagree, it is their job. Our car has been broken into, a planter stolen from our front porch, people in the parking area drinking and partying all night leaving trash everywhere.

The day FPI took over the property a letter was put on every residents door stating nothing would change and our leases would stay in effect. Within two weeks we received another notice on our door that all rents would be raised the maximum allowable amount until they reach the new rent of $200.00 a month more than the current lease amount. After "trying" to find out what was meant by that by talking to the manager she said rent would probably increase $70.00 a month until the $200.00 rent increase was met. Needless to say, there has been a large amount of people leaving and planning to leave in the very near future.

Within a week of FPI taking over they had canceled the security service that patrolled the grounds, we no longer feel safe here at all. They reduced the trash pickups by 33%, we now have dumpster divers and overflowing dumpsters. The new maintenance man refuses to pickup any trash of any kind even if he drops it, the previous maintenance man kept it spotless here. And the list goes on, we would have never thought things could go so bad so fast.

If you're thinking of renting here you have been warned. Do some research, talk to any renters you might know before you waste your money. NEVER sign a lease, you will be forced to break it and you will pay the remainder as we have been told. Our recommendation is go somewhere else, there are many available for what they are charging.
