My room-mate and I left for a few reasons.
1. Maintenance left a mess in our apartment.
2. Management didn't believe us when we complained. The owner and Manager called us F-ing liars!
3. We can sue them, and are in the process.
4. There are no carpet moldings, so the wall goes all the way to the carpet line!
5. The laundry rooms are outdated with un-level washing machines.
6. Our carpets were more than 5 years old and looked it.
7. Management kept putting smokers below us knowing the smoke wafted up and into our apt through the cracks in the sliding door.
8. My car was broken into in the parking garage.
9. Our neighbors threatened us because we complained about their loudness. Managment said we were "flagged".
10. The elvators never have permits and occasionally do not work. The mail man joked with me and said he didn't know why anyone used them as they looked like death-traps.
11. There was racist graffiti in our building that remained for months.
12. We had to call Code Enforcement to put pressure on management to fix the fire-alarms in our building.
I could go on...

I totally agree with you, I remember one time when I was verbally assaulted by a neighbor in the pool and ------------- saw the whole thing, but refused to do anything about it.
