My two children and I moved to Gold Ridge Apartments back in July of this year. I knew the area wasn t the best, but I didn t think it would be that bad since I know people who have lived in this complex for years and had no complaints.

The first month went rather well. It was quiet, the neighbours seemed nice, and overall I was satisfied. The next month however began to go sour. It all started when I saw cockroaches in my bedroom. I brought this to the attention of the office and the only solution they could offer was to spray around the area or fumigate the unit (doesn t help when the neighbours around you don t keep their units clean!). Neighbours even told me to be careful walking around at night and especially near the dumpsters because black beetles were very common in the complex.

From that point, things started to get progressively worse. One day I witnessed several sheriffs running through the complex looking for a suspect (I don t know what the crime was). Another day we heard a neighbour was robbed at gun point, and the next night and several nights afterward I heard multiple gun shots within the complex in close proximity of my unit. In case you were wondering, NO the police or security never came! The noise levels began to rise with the neighbours around me. One night I witnessed a woman getting punched in the face by a man, and another night I witnessed two women getting robbed by two men right outside the security gate. I saw numerous cars come through the wrong side of the gate, and the side gate being propped open for any and everyone to simply walk through without a key. It was also very common to see and hear tenants driving wrecklessly through the parking lot. One neighbour said that her car was hit and damaged, but no note was left. Another neighbour said he was robbed while taking his garbage out. Another said that her car was broken into.

The icing on the cake was when I was finally robbed. I was told that security would be patrolling the complex 24/7, yet I only saw them maybe twice since I moved in (patrolling, that is they re usually sitting in their car doing nothing). The office had ample warning and were fully aware of the activities going on, yet NOTHING was ever done. They offered to relocate me within the complex RIIIIIGHT. And since I had to move immediately following this incident and had to break my lease early, they basically told me that there was nothing they could do in regards to the fees and penalties. I even went above and beyond the office staff, and spoke to upper management. They re all the same unprofessional and unsympathetic. They re also LIARS! They told a prospective tenant (who I happen to be acquainted with) that they would never raise her rent, yet they never told me that my rent would increase from $879 to $1059 after my six-month lease was up; I found that out by reading the lease agreement they failed to give me a copy of until I requested it.

So if you re seriously interested in calling this place home, my suggestion is to look elsewhere. True, their prices are probably the best in town considering all the great amenities they provide. But if you value your safety, peace of mind, and all the possessions you ve worked hard to attain, DON T LIVE HERE! If you absolutely have to, pick a unit in the front section of the complex near the office since it doesn t seem there are many problems there. BE FOREWARNED: DO NOT LIVE IN THE BACK SECTION OF THIS COMPLEX! The tenants are disrespectful, devious, dishonest, and will rob you blind!
