APPEARANCE/AMENITIES/PARKING:
I like the overall appearance of my apartment, the details add a certain charm (crown moldings, ceiling fans, full size washer/dryer, huge bathroom with a walk-in closet in it, oversized bathtub), but this place is pretty overrated, and definitely over priced for what you really get. I was promised a garage next to my apartment that suddenly wasn't ready when I moved in. I still don't have my garage, and have had to fight for parking the past 1.5 months. They offered me a temporary space that's requires a significant walk to my apartment--not good if you're a single female, and definitely not the parking situation I agreed to pay $75 per month for. It's a damn good thing they're paying for the first 2 months rent, otherwise I'd be ready to go to court over this crap. Also, prepare for a HELLISH move if you take a 3rd floor apartment, there are no elevators!! Pool is really nice, outdoor fireplace is a nice touch also. The gym is open 24 hours, but only has 2 treadmills, 1 stairmaster, and 1 stationary bike for cardio equipment. Imagine the wait once the entire 384 unit building is complete. Speaking of large numbers of units---why is there only 1 mail box area' It's common to see folks drive to get their mail, which seems like a huge inconvenience.
STAFF COMMENTS:
I agree with the other posters regarding the office staff, hit and miss in the courtesy department. The staff is definitely more in sales mode than in service. I recently requested maintenance that was never performed, it's been 2 weeks since I requested it. I honestly don't think the girl at the front desk took my complaint seriously, and I doubt the work order was even generated. In addition, I've never received call backs when promised, which makes me feel as if I'm pestering when I call back repeatedly.
COMMUNITY/NEIGHBORS:
This is my biggest pet peeve so far---a lot of tenants leave their trash bags in front of their doors (it would help if the garbage areas weren't located in Timbuktu, but still) overnight or longer. With the complex still under construction, the risk for ants and mice increase when people leave food out for them! Does the sound of construction bother you' If not, this is the place for you! Construction work isn't an issue if you're gone during the day, but the noise continues throughout the weekend also, beginning at 6am on Saturdays. There are no groundskeepers that patrol the building and clean up trash, so it's not uncommon to see cigarette butts throughout the stairwells. The tenants seem mostly professional, career-oriented types, although I've seen decendents of the Hatfields and McCoys throughout the complex---I'm hoping they won't be able to maintain the rent after the move in special runs out!
SUMMARY: I'd recommend this place to someone looking for a quiet place in a nice neighborhood with plenty of shopping nearby. The area is very well served with restaurants, grocery stores, and shopping centers, so you won't have to go far for anything. If you get a garage, you shouldn't experience issues with car break-ins. If you have a dog or a cat, you're a shoo-in, the complex has lots of pet-owners, more than I've ever lived around before. The business centers (2 of them) are available with free internet and a PC, on a first come first serve basis. This is cool for 2004, but I plan to buy after my lease is up.
