Actually they did re-name it "Kensington" in the end. All a part of hiding the fact that the owner, M2 (m squared) is the corporation that owns and now manages these apartments. Their money problems are obvious. First construction workers from out of state, who received shelter but low salaries, and aparently, were not allowed off the premises. Then these workers broke into many of the apartments, in some cases, the supervisor was letting them into the apartments to use the bathrooms, and they rifled through personal belongings and took cash, jewelry, etc. You get what you pay for with construction, so the pipes were left lying on the ground (for 18 months) nails and spikes were left all over the parking areas, many, many of us had to buy new tires, paint was spilled everywhere including on our patio furniture, the new windows were replaced (one per apartment) and left without locks, the "air conditioning filters" were a disguise for entering your apartment, no filters were replaced in the bedrooms at all, the applicances are left unrepaired. Then all amenities were lost: the "Gated community" we signed up for was lost, the gates were unrepaired, stuck open and closed, and then removed, the pools were closed, the fitness room was "rebuilt" (for over a year), the office hours were eliminated or shortened, no services such as admittance for a lockout, flooding, sewer backups (many) cables cut, electricity and water cut offs, and many, many complaints about the rudeness of the office staff, who were pleasant and accomodating in the original management company, even if often incompetant.

You need to send a letter to the owner ASAP and not the managment company. Let him know you will be filing a lawsuit ASAP if you services that you are paying for are not getting. What they are going to try and do is to get you to abide by the new policies they have put into place and act like they don't need to recognize the old lease with Archstone you signed. Look on the old lease and see what the grace period is, legally they can't charge you a late fee before that time. Don't let them bully you. They tried the same crap with me and it did not work out well for them at all.

I've written to the current owner (Bernard-Allison)and talked to an attorney about the on-going problems with this management company as well as the preceeding one (Archstone). I can file in Small Claims court, but unless the disaffected tenants file as a group the owner will just file in Superior court, which sets aside the small claims decision, and then you have to pay an attorney to cross file against them. This would only be usuable if we filed as a group and shared the attorney expenses, which are high, about $500 each to take the matter to completion. This would pay in the long run, more than enough to pay new moving expenses to relocate, but no one I have talked to wants to put the money out front, and of course there is a risk.

The new management claims the other people just took off and left everything a mess...guess they were pissed about losing their job so quickly. They knew the new management was coming in as they told me a few days before it happened when I asked about breaking my lease.

What are you talking about The huge sign up front says Kensington, not they bothered to officially tell anyone the name changed. I have asked each manager for MONTHS why the hours are not posted and they have the nerve to say they are waiting for the sign. Like they cannot print the hours on a piece of paper and stick it on the door. They lie about EVERYTHING I honestly believe that they do not want to post the hours because they do not typically come in on time or are in the office 1/2 the time. One of them even lied to me when I said there was no one in the office when I came by TWO TIMES She looked at me and insisted she was there when she was not. I know what her car looks like, it was not there and the office was locked and she always comes in late.
